  8. The best way for the forum to flourish is for the majority of reasonable members to stay and post intresting stuff, eventually the mischief makers will bugger off. What I am saying is stay and make it a place worth visiting Don't you dare bugger off again

  9. I literally (and I do mean literally) don't know a single person who thinks that. Do you know anyone who thinks that (or has ever even implied that)? However, I do know many people who think that every step in the direction of lower emissions is a step in the right direction. I also know many people (see this thread for evidence) whose natural response to suggestions is one of: It'll never work (note the word "never" often comes up) It'll be too difficult/too slow/too expensive/too anything I can think of to deride the idea It'll not fix the problem in a single bound so it's not worth doing It'll be change and I'm terrified of new things (normally disguised as one of the three above)

  13. The correct answer, sadly, is that the forum software is a complete mess.

  14. I'm not sure that follows. Dan and Team Mod specifically want political discussion here and it is cross-contamination from the political stuff that drags the mood of the forum down, in my opinion. The bad attitude and rudeness towards fellow posters in the political threads overflows into the boating discussions, even though the political threads might not be in one's VNC. Is there somewhere else people discuss boating where political threads do constantly not occur? I'd be off like a shot if there was.

  24. Yes but I boat for 8 hours a day all year round when I’m travelling.....plus having a sensible 50ft nb we don’t have the roof space to put that much solar...plus I like a clear roof!!

  25. We're in complete agreement but we're posting past each other at the deniers. Historical record here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geologic_temperature_record I was agreeing that, factually, yes, there have been times with much higher temperatures in the far distant past. However, the adjustment periods were in the millions of years. If we achieve it quickly, there won't be time for current lifeforms to adapt, move and evolve in order to survive.

  28. I'm under the impression the the reason it can be done is because of the change from the old lights to the new lights - that may or may not be the whole reason it's doable which is why I linked to the company to who are doing in - The technicalities of it maybe above my pay grade but that doesn't change the fact that it is being done and it is doing the job it was designed to do. It was a nice touch to link to a site that links back to a site that I linked to earlier when I needed to explain how charging an electric car works. ?

  29. What if we repaired all the broken bits first then started 'improving' details? Oh. Too simple, sorry.

  32. Would you like some cheese with that whine - it's one solution, just one. It's not the solution for your street but it is in others. When you plug the charger in it locks and can't be removed until you personally unlock it and unplug it - will that stop every local scrote possibly not but they would have to make quite an effort to vandalise it.

  33. Theirs is air source heating but the post office across the road is ground source and same as you its 50 foot straight down it works well, Wallers have ground source but that is a farm and theirs is 4 foot down over an acre field again works well along with the solar that pays for the lecce to run it. I have always thought water source heating would be good on boats, after all if the take off are near the baseplate not much chance of freezing that deep in the winter? plus it would draw water and put it back on different sides of the boat Its not for me all this rushing around I cant wait for Jayne to give up work so we can CC for a few years or so

  34. Who in they right mind in the early days of motoring would have considered owning a car when you had to buy small amounts of fuel from a chemist? Foolish people?

  35. We had a vote on whether or not we would see the politics section on the VNC but we can still see the politics section on the VNC when logged in so I take it the not seeing it when not logged in isn't that. If you Voldemort him back into existence then you're on you one with that one Beagle I wonder if it has more to do with trying not to encourage to people join for what could be an interest in controversial subjects rather than canals. ?But It's NEW? Yes he does Ain't there just - all the more reason to hang around and even up the numbers a bit.

  37. and is there enough space on a 52 foot narrow boat to put the panels on needed to power said boat for more than a couple of hours per day? That's the problem that is going to hit most people : there just isn't enough space on a standard narrowboat for the panels.

  38. Have you tried driving a herd of cows down a motorway lately , they were there before the motorway . Times change. Before the houses were there probably people didnt moor and run engines for hours to charge their batteries to keep the fridge, TV sat decoder working

  40. Simple. it is because you are not logged in. Since you are not logged in there is no way for the software to know who you are and if you have posted the required 10 posts. This is not uncommon in forum software.

  41. They also have 230 volts for charging in the USA in houses Thats funny I did nothing at all and mine refueled itself for free, and when its not doing that it creates hot water for free?

  46. in (un)civilised countries you attach a length of copper wire to each of a pair of shoes and chuck each shoe over one of the three bare overhead conductors that are strung from house to house at first floor level.

  49. It's up and running and all looks to be perfect. Thank you all so much to everyone that advised today and for being so patient with me, I realise it's probably a bit frustrating when you know exactly how to do it yourselves. It's massively appreciated

  50. Glad everything worked, I don’t think people realise how better the big canals are and you don’t need to move miles to get away, as you say you saw no boats, Just been up the Leeds Liv, couldn’t wait to get back, full moorings, speeding boats, continuous moorers , clueless new boaters with 100k+ boats living the dream, busy Towpaths full of speeding cyclists. Now back, no boats, wide canals, ample moorings and total solitude. You don’t need to move miles if you know where to move to.
