As we came up the wide locks on the Droitwich this morning, we were amused to see these three vans, used by the crew that were busily piling a collapsed towpath. Between them they had the current and the two previous generations of logo - all different and so were the feelgood straplines.

just replaced my 12 year old regulator and pigtails. The new regulator was a bit shorter than the old one, so I spent quite a bit of time making a new outlet pipe and fitting it inside the gas locker. It was after I had finished that it occurred to me that I could have drilled new holes and fitted the regulator mounting bracket a couple of cms lower. Doh!

I occasionally and irregularly buy one or other of the above magazines in my local WH Smith. Not having seen either publication on the shelves in the last few months, I enquired whether Smiths had stopped selling them. Apparently, these magazines along with half a dozen others are now kept behind the till as they are the most commonly stolen issues if kept on the usual magazine shelves. Two other titles which are obviously equally attractive are “Scooteristl” and “Runner”. Who’d a thought it ??

There was a thread a couple of months ago where someone's solar charger and alternator settings meant that when close to fully charged, the warning beep just started to sound quietly. You mentioned solar on your boat, just a thought.

If your barrus has the twin alt set up the panel gauge and warning light are only connected to the small engine battery alt, not connected to your main bank unless it has been rewired. You need to check the connections, belts and alt output on this side of the system. Unless the engine rpm is very low it is unlikely to be your problem.

Indeed. The power of the internet. 20 years ago when I lived on my first boat, if you wanted to ask a question you could ask a neighbour on the towpath and that was about it. 9 times out of 10 they were wrong. These days you just put out a question, get an instant answer or start a discussion, and at the end of it you'll have some answers and can make your own mind up. You can also go onto YouTube and see how to do practically any job. Isn't it great.

I would be worried that towing a raft of chickens would fowl the prop. Ok,ok.....i'm going..........
