  2. (Langollen aquaduct lyrics by Si̶m̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶a Gar̶f̶u̶n̶k̶e̶l̶ Mr Rusty) Let us be boaters, we'll marry our four tunes together I've got some real ale here in my bilge So we bought a pack of cashew nuts, and Mrs. Miggins pies And we cruised off, cruised off, to look for Llangollen aquaduct Kathy, I said, as we entered the tunnel at Blisworth Bugbrooke seems like a dream to me now It took us four days to reach the boat inn at Stoke Bruerne We've gone to look for Llangollen aquaduct Laughing at the locks, playing games with the paddles She said the man in the rubber drysuit was a spy I said be careful, his lifejacket's really a camera Toss me a windlass, I think there's one in my raincoat" "We dropped the last one an hour ago" So I looked at the scenery, she read her Nicholson guide. And the moon rose over an open field. Kathy I'm lost, I said We should have turn'd left at Norton junction Well, I'm empty and aching ,it could be that Miggins pie. Counting the widebeams on the North Oxford interchange. They've all come to look for somewhere to live. They've all come to look for Llangollen aquaduct.........

  11. Look for a tide mark on the engine and if it reaches higher than things like the starter motor, engine and gearbox dipstick holes and dip to see whether there's any water in the engine, possible white emulsion.

  16. Indeed, but it's not compulsory to be a member here. I don't expect he's the only one to have wandered off over the years, just one of the few to get in a rather pointless strop, refuse to accept apologies for an honest mistake, make an issue of it and publicly announce his departure. He'll no doubt resurface sooner or later under a different name, like most of the others. Could even be contributing to this thread...

  22. The top one is obviously balanced on the bottom one. Forgive me for my numptyness but is stacking one battery on top of the other a bad idea? Maybe they are sealed cells so you dont need access to top them up - which you wont have - but how can you periodically check the connections without removing them? You do need to check the terminals from time to time. Also wouldnt stacking them give rise to possible temperature differences? Not sure where on the boat they are located but if in the engine bay of a cruiser stern, the bottom battery could be on the swim at the canal water temp and the top one at 30°C on a nice summers day with the engine running. I guess a location temp of difference of 10°C would have quite an effect on rate of change of SoC/capacity/charging rate?

  25. Are you selling the boat soon then? If not why are you worrying about the potential value to someone else? I think this obsession with the market value of our possessions comes from the housing market mentality. Think about the value of your boat to you and do what you want with it. That will make you feel much happier. Self pump out, no smell, spills or hassle? That's the funniest joke I've heard for ages ? It does make me laugh when people on this forum try to tell us that their sh*t doesn't stink ?. I had a self pump out kit on a previous boat for a couple of years. Bloody horrible idea. Never again. Still, each to their own, if that's your thing.

  27. All these recommendations for tins of foam are all very good but it's a bit like recommending sucking Polo Mints when driving on a skin full. The simple truth is if we'd been meant to ride bikes on canal towpaths god wouldn't have grown thorny bushes alongside them. You'll be saying next to put your gloves on the dashboard so you can't see you're speeding. It's the universe's way of telling you that you shouldn't be doing this.

  31. It’s simple enough to determine if it’s the batteries. Swap them around so that the ‘bottom’ one moves to the top. See if the lower voltage one moves. If it does then it’s the battery.

  35. No, I approached Airlink in 2006 and suggested they built an Isolating transformer in a plastic case for boats. Mine was in fact a bare transformer as a test, now housed in a custom HDPE case.

  37. I haven't bothered with a GI despite my boat spending most of its time connected to shore power. I fitted the first Airlink Isolating transformer back in 2006. Much safer and more reliable.

  43. The screen on this is considerably bigger then the screen on the old Raymarine it is replacing. We are limited with the screen size that we can fit in the area avaliable for nav gear on the dashboard. This is about as big a screen as can fit. The 9" would have been a gnats too big.
