  19. Just thought I would show you a simple dip stick I have for the 150 gearbox as a few people struggle to see the oil on the dip stick, the orange top fits perfectly and the wood dowel shows the oil so you get a true reading

  20. About half an amp. They do make these from about 50W to 4000W, and I would suggest looking at the 1000W one for what you want it to do. It will spike to 2000W so should easily be able to start the fridge compressor, just keep an eye on the random sales they do - there is usually something at half price on that site.

  25. Yes, its only dreaming (I think) but a Rochdale winter hobby boat would be nice. A little tug of about 50 foot, probably with a K2. Would need to do the Calder and Hebble at one end and also turn in the winding hole on the summit. It is pretty grey and grim up here lately, and plenty of satanic mills too, but we like this sort of thing. You don't need to put people off, the huge number of wide locks does that. On the K&A the liveaboards spend a whole year getting prepared to do Caan Hill, up here you do a Caan Hill every time you move ?. .................Dave Its got loads of torque which is just perfect for driving the TravelPower. I thought you had cut down on beer?, you will save enough money for another boat in no time at all ?

  26. Johny, this shows that your battery charging regime is woefully inadequate. This is the issue you need to address before you replace them with the same, with lithiums or with anything else.

  27. To be fair I think the op did quite fancy the Kelvin and this forum changed her mind (in a recent thread). She has just purchased a "project" boat which has the K2 "half installed" in what is probably an unsuitable boat. If she was braver and/or wealthier she should remove and store the K2, Renovate the current boat, fit a modern engine, then sell boat and seek a shell more suitable for the K2. ............Dave

  37. PPS Use the Horseandhoundforum for these issues. https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/categories/hho-forum.50/ It's part of the Horse and Hound website, lots of good posts about horses, ponies, and other equids.

  41. If your boat is under 45 feet you can legaly be a danger without a radio on the Thames. Only a boat over 45 feet is a problem

  43. Oh woe is me...... it's all my fault. I think I'll be wearing sackcloths and ashes tomorrow! It was a thread I created about 3 horses that I had been told this morning had been abandoned, they were without food, the owner was in prison, the RSPCA had been told but they were ignoring the horses. So I was in panic mode! Wondering how I could help. I asked here for advice, and the advice was quickly forthcoming and was brilliant! After taking a long-range picture of the horses, I could see they had been given hay. People here confirmed the horses didn't appear to be in distress. After everything had settled down, I was embarrassed, and the thread could have been misconstrued (probably rightly) that I was a nosy interfering busybody! So I asked if the thread could be removed, as it had served it's purpose. No one was naughty or anything like that. It was just me hiding my embarrassment. Sorry!

  44. Reminds me of a work colleague around the same time who went to his building society for cash to pay his builder. Being a Mancunian when they started asking he simply stated in broad Mancunian it was to fund a drugs deal and none of their effing business... much shuffling and confusion by the staff and his bag of cash was duly delivered without further comment.... and he he paid his builder if course ?

  46. Me as well. Knowledge in depth, which should be an asset to this forum. I am certainly not in favour of petty and childish name calling which smacks of the playground. Those types of opinions are best left unsaid. Howard

  49. On a steel Hull with Ply topsides it'll pretty much always leak from somewhere as they expand at different rates. Ply Hull is doable but surprisingly expensive and you would havd to design rubbing strakes carefully as wood really suffers against concrete banks and locks. Go GRP, they're great!
