  6. Zinga is 90 odd percent zinc and sticks like s**t to a blanket! I did a bit of steel at the same time, and it lives in the cut on a bit of wire, no other protection next to steel pilings and still no rust. When it goes rusty I will worry about my boat but until then no worries

  15. I noticed a few have said about converting buttys to motors but this isn't any diffrent to what alot of old carries use to do, there are a number of motors about that use to be buttys from a by gone working era. it was also done from motor to butty due to lack of engines that then got converted back to motors. I semi see an issue with cutting a boat up to make 2 boats but i don't have an issue turning a boat from 1 form to another. also alot of Tugs were made from full length boats with either the middle or a bow or a back cut off. so these that don't fully agree should boats like England, Enterprise, Dane (TCO), Severn (TCO), Holland ect ect all be returned to how the came out or is this not a part of there history and now in a form that they survive and still loved?

  19. I think you meant that it is not very bright threatening a man with a knife when you are armed with a gun - by law he must use only 'proportional force' The guy with the gun will get locked up and the Knife-wielder gets 'help' to overcome his kleptomania. Ask Tony Martin.

  26. No, I distinctly remember throwing the dog off my side of the bed, pulling the duvet up and climbing under it. Also remember feigning sleep when the wife was disturbed by 5 stone of dog getting back up, on her side of the bed. Almost certainly, none of this occurred on the roof, for one thing it's far too steep up there.

  29. This leads me to further confusion - If '2-pack' is so good, why do you need to Zinc-coat underneath it ? If Zinc-coat is so good, why do you need to '2-pack' over it ?

  30. I don't presume to speak for Alan but I think you have missed a point. Using your hat analogy if the hat gets worn out from getting wet you just get another hat. Same with sacrificial anodes. With zinc coating on a boat, if the coating gets sacrificially eroded you are stuffed and back to blacking or another high cost coating. Daft when the coating is a electrically less noble metal we KNOW is gonna erode.

  31. Because it prevents the thing you are protecting from eroding. All coatings have a shelf life. Not a massively relevant question. JP

  32. We had it done three years ago and our hull is as clean as a whistle. Bear in mind that if you are keeping the boat another six years, then you have at least two, possibly three blacking sessions ahead, so deduct the cost of those from your overall cost. It won't add value, but when you sell, it will probably mean your less likely to get huge chunks shaved off the asking price. You also don't know what the future holds, in six years, you may decide to keep boat a little longer, in which case it will definitely be worth it.

  33. You are both correct. Abingdon Lock island is popular and gets booked out by visiting boat clubs in the summer. It does have electric on the island. Richard is very helpful. Sandford Lock island could suit you very well as it is less popular but does have electric. Talk to Aidan. Otherwise I would try and make contact with the locks up from there you think could have moorings and see what they say.

  42. I have a car that was given me it is the perfik car worth nowt, no one would steal it or be seen dead in it! and always starts first turn of the key. I do find it hard cruising with a car though as it keeps on sinking? Sorry I find it to much hassle going backwards and forwards to get it even with a bike

  43. Ere no that was my first ever membership of this forum and the reply you gave me was quite arrogant and offensive. I have always stated who I am to the forum at all times after getting upset by not only your posts but bullying from other members on here. I have just returned after a year stating who I am to the forum mods who know my circumstances more clearly than yourself. Now if you wish to proceed to bully or post towards passive aggressive post towards me then I sujjest you put your concerns to the forum instead of trying to manipulate me into a rebellious posting. You've already upset a friend of mine tonight. I sujjest you contact the forum for direction. Have a think about this Martin. I loose nothing by leaving but I think I can add to this forum in a relaxed jovial manner. I won't be rude because I think that's us what you seek. Nice try though......... Seen it so many times on here........

  45. Frankly this bit is hardly true. Fine to warn people about risks but best not to make stuff up to excagerate one’s case. Yes CO is produced in microscopic quantities by a correctly running gas burner but such quantities will not kill you once mixed in the large volume of cabin air. Or even if you breathed it neat. Your comments really only apply to solid fuel appliances.
