  2. Nope, but they are both crooked by precisely the same distance, which satisfies my OCD in a different sort of way!

  5. Ere no that was my first ever membership of this forum and the reply you gave me was quite arrogant and offensive. I have always stated who I am to the forum at all times after getting upset by not only your posts but bullying from other members on here. I have just returned after a year stating who I am to the forum mods who know my circumstances more clearly than yourself. Now if you wish to proceed to bully or post towards passive aggressive post towards me then I sujjest you put your concerns to the forum instead of trying to manipulate me into a rebellious posting. You've already upset a friend of mine tonight. I sujjest you contact the forum for direction. Have a think about this Martin. I loose nothing by leaving but I think I can add to this forum in a relaxed jovial manner. I won't be rude because I think that's us what you seek. Nice try though......... Seen it so many times on here........

  7. Its a hard one and depends on what you are doing. We often sell our car and cruise without one but found this year that it was easier and more convenient to keep one. We bought a banger for 550 pounds without faults and so far have done 10k miles in it in six months. Passed mot recently with a requirement of one track rod end. So now worth more than we paid for it. Very comfy and large enough for dog to be comfy etc etc and dont give a crap where we leave it cos whats the worst that can happen for that money. We have taken it to wales, cornwall, scotland, the lake district and all points in between without fault. We hopped it along the k and a with ease then used cheap train tickets ( senior rail card ) to pick up at other times. There is ALWAYS somewhere easy to park for free in the nice parts of the country. Other years we have done without but its nice to have a car for big shops whilst cruising and days away from the cut. Yes car hire is possible and CAN be cheap but certainly not always and not always easy to get one even if enterprise say they will deliver. There is no one yes or no arguement to this question its a case of suck it and see what works for you.

  11. I've done something similar. Mirror finish stainless steel, used to make freestanding reflectors. 2 pieces as high as the stove, each bent at right angles, standing one each side of stove, overlapping at the back. This has reduced the heat absorption by the walls and step, and reflects more heat into the cabin. (and has had no effect on the Eco-fan!!) Bod

  25. Well actually....... So unless specifically agreed, as it's his business, I don't think Martin could place advertisements for his commercially produced areas in the "For Sale or Wanted" section. You or I, on the other hand, could sell something he had fabricated second hand via that route. I certainly have no issue with Martin starting threads that show the things he produces, and hope that Daniel and site admin would see it as useful. His posts are always educational to me about what is available and how they are made and fitted. However at the point he started to do actual advertising, and with a price list, it is fairly clear that the rules say he could not do so without special permission. Perhaps Dan could clarify his position on this? (Oh, and by the way, I realise it pushes costs up, but those fairly basic brass portholes and small fixing bolts do the products no favours. They would look even better with proper heavy brass castings, secured with proper countersunk brass bolts with nice big heads on!).

  41. Iron filings seem to have been used fairly regularly on 18th and early 19th century constructions, the idea probably being that they rusted and adhered to the faces to be connected. You can find their use on early steam engines. Maillard also visited the cast iron aqueduct on the Derby Canal, where there seem to have been problems with the jointing, with at least one of the panels cracking during assembly and requiring replacement. I suspect that a variety of different types were tried. The suggestion of tar and wood shavings seems to have come from Mr Duncombe, who was the site engineer when Maillard visited. After his visit, Maillard returned to Austria and started construction of the Wiener Neustädter Kanal, a copy of an English narrow canal. The sections outside of Vienna still survive, though not navigable. His aqueducts were made from wood, as the technology for casting iron was not very advanced outside of Britain.
