  1. Just a reminder to all you folks, myself included re the dangers of Co and possibly waking up Dead!! Alarm went off on boat next to mine late last evening, proves the worth of alarms. They had left their ash bucket full of hot ashes inside the boat!! Dont do it, they smoulder as we all know for a couple of days even if freezing cold outside. So ashes outside every time please. Thanks and sleep safely.

  4. Good evening i thought it might help to offer some explanation of why I charge a by the foot price for stretches eight foot and over i will stretch by less than eight feet but the price would be quoted and not fixed a boat that is to be stretched has firstly to be cut in half regardless of how much it is to be stretched by. This is required regardless and is a big part of the job. The steel sheets are Eight foot long and so stretching by six foot for example leaves two foot of spare steel which is not always used immediately i am happy to stretch by any size but it cannot be done by the foot price under eight foot as it is uneconomical i hope this answers any questions Martin

  6. Crikey, this is a long thread for a duff oil pressure sender! Poor old OP is not mechanically minded so he's probably bamboozled now! Four pages and much hand wringing about a knackered engine, plus a debate about whether modern engine manufacturers know what they're doing when they specify their oil, all for a simple ten minute job. Granted, if the fault persists thereafter the landscape changes, but first things first, eh?

  8. Or has gone on holiday with his latest pay packet. In this day and age I really struggle with the concept that people are this stupid to just hand over a wedge of cash to a complete stranger.

  12. We were in Saxilby on Saturday evening. Four boats moored up. Two of which were running generators not only well past the 8pm time limit but also on their back decks under canvas covers with the wind blowing at the stern of the boats. You can not educate everyone!

  26. We had 2 ash pans on our last boat. The fire was used one night and was out the next day. That evening we inserted the spare pan...because it was blowing a hoolie outside we didn't want the ash blowing about plus..the ash in the pan was cold so we stored it under the stove. We sat watching the TV and suddenly the CO alarm started screaming and indicated high CO. I emptied the "supposed" dead ash pan outside..and there in the bottom were a few blazing coals. The ash on top had acted as an insulator and so it felt cold. The CO alarm....saved our lives.

  41. There was a boat moored a couple or pontoons away from us and whenever we were there it was belching stinking smoke from burning wood, The level of ash on the boats moored around us was obvious and our worktops were dirty. We don't live on board but if we did I would have been looking for a change of berth . For fires there is wood and there is wood, from seasoned hard wood, fresh damp wood and general crap.

  46. Well they must "get away" with ice being pushed against them given the complete lack of sunk cruisers every time the canal freezes over! Last time we took NC out ice breaking it was the steel boats complaining that we would damage their boats!
