  1. No way. Although I take care in the way I phrase my written comments you seem far too close an supportive of the company. That offer was to Athy, NOT you.

  2. Fill out one of the proper incident report from the CRT site and submit as it instructs. I would also send a copy with covering letter to Vicky Martin (South East Waterways manager) and Tony Stammers (CRT head of health and safety). Cath and I had a meeting with both where we were attempting to address exactly this kind of issue, and there was no ambiguity from the outcome of that meeting. The boater is firmly in charge, and the volunteer lock keeper is only there to guide and (if you wish) to assist with your agreement. They should never do anything without agreeing it with you, and certainly not put you or your boat in any danger. To quote from above blog post, this was an exact wording agreed with CRT at and after that meeting...... If the message has not got through, it needs to not only be formally reported, but those who have committed to trying to improve training need to know about it, IMO.

  3. That did make me chuckle... I abide by the laws that they set, i am not interested in the legality of those laws, they do not cause me any discomfort so i am happy, so i doubt very much they will turn up and steal my boat.

  4. I was a bit lost then with that reply, but i have to agree anythng is possible...if your mad enough;) Finished early today so i thought i would give the next update, a few bits done and just managed to get the new deck done, weather was very risky this weekend, and after work now i am to tired so to keep my sanity, what is left of it, i only do work on the boat at the weekends now, maybe a few bits during the week. But i get a bit stroppy with the need to get the boat done asap, and we all know that when your rushing and stressing it just makes things go wrong, there fore take longer. New deck is 18mm Marine ply with a single 650grm combination matt, just to seal it a bit more than just resin. Even with a straight head i managed to cut the matt to short, on by a few inch so i just patched it up with a few strips of more 650 combo matt. . This the gap i missed andthe job in hand, Nicely wet out but for the white strands, just would not wet out for some reason, no big deal though this, will mkae no effect on the water prrof or strength in the deck. I have been meaning to seal the front bulkhead and locker seats for months but keep forgetting while laminating. hey i remembered today These will be laminated in place soon, BIG JOB done here, or strong one i hope, dont ask why but it needs to be done some time so i drilled through for the recovery eye, nearly got it square, not big deal again as i will be drilling it out wider than the M12 thread so i can set a SS pipe in then with epoxy. Hey its i the middle though inside i still need to decide when to laminate the batten yet. Ireckon it will be strong enough...plenty but its just me to over do things . These are the spreader blocks for the bow rail, they are 150mm x 80 mm from 18mm Marine ply. Just a small job but very important. These i am well chuffed with, the grab rails for the canopy. I gave them 3 coats of clear Danish oil. Also had a brain wave how to oil the bolt holes with ease and no waist. I used one of the bolt thatwill be used, dipped it in the oil and twisted it up and down in the hole to oil it. small thing please small minds hey I just love sapele Cant wait to fit the rubbing strake. Bring on the two week off work In time for the next few days of good weather i got some proper paint,Jotun Pioner Top coat, 5l each of Ultramarine blue for the hull and Traffic White for eh top side.Oh and more Vinyguard primmer as i will give it all another coat. I sooooooo cant wait to paint it:) will look a different boat.

  5. There is a great deal of evidence and hard facts, none of which shows C&RT in a good light, or their actions and conduct to be anything other than ill-advised and/or illegal, . . . but it happens that at this stage neither you nor any of the rest of C&RT's dedicated apologists and cheerleaders are privy to very much of it.

  7. Nearly 9 years between consecutive postings in the same thread may or may not be a forum record, I don't know, but it is a pretty good attempt. Revisiting the thread I'm reminded what a tragedy it is that Tim Leech is no longer with us to give his expert advice. If Tim said something, I was always pretty confident it was right!

  8. my avatar dog snores and grunts while taking his frequent daytime naps. He always arranges a cushion or fits in with the arm of a chair so his head is raised, just like a human adjusting a pillow. I find it all very comforting - he is reminding me how relaxed and content he is in the home we have provided for him. I often wonder about the expression - "it's a dog's life". they have a wonderful life in a caring home: food on schedule without any effort on their part. exercise in carefully chosen and usually safe environments. exciting trips in the car with lots to observe. lots of beds and sofas to pick from. regular haircuts. the very best private medical care. several members of the family ready to cuddle them and reassure them. treats if they behave. ............ and in their failing years, euthanasia to protect them from the miseries of a painful body (something denied to us humans). what's not to like?.

  9. What I find curious in this discussion is the number of people coming out in support of someone who clearly does not pay his debts, nor apparently has any intention of paying his debts (judging by the lack of response to letters asking him to do so). I know CRT is held to be a charity but since they are also running a business, the gent concerned is moored in a berth that CRT could be letting to someone who was actually willing to pay for what they are getting rather than a freeloader. It seems to me that the gent concerned has bought a redundant and now pointless vessel and is reliant on the charity of others to keep it on the water. Lightships now have no function other than for those who are so inclined to look at them as say,"Oh, that's an interesting boat". Turning them into 'Night-spots' or licensed premises is now old hat, the best place for them is a breakers yard, unless of course we want to keep every boat that was ever made as a historic boat and preserve everything. If someone has the money to do this then all very well, but when someone has got hold of a boat without any real plan of what they are going to do with it and how they are going to finance it then, I'm afraid that my sympathy becomes rather limited.

  10. Ribble passed over the L&LC summit today carrying 32 tons of sand from Goole to Liverpool, the first load over the canal's summit for 38 years. This is Barrowford this evening.

  15. According to the ship's website, as pointed out before, Alan Roberts is not in fact the owner. Not that I believe everything I read on the web, but I do find that odd enough in view of the insistence on this as his personal tragedy to question almost everything I read in support of Mr Roberts, as we really don't know anything about him apart from the fact that he WAS the owner during a period of unlicensed trading and unpaid mooring fees. No one deserves to have anything "stolen", but as ever there's a bit more to this than meets the eye, and accusing those who question any particular point of view of prejudice and bigotry is, frankly, bollocks, and smacks more than little of the same conditions.

  16. It goes against the grain, and I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I'm sycamore threads descending into puns - if you're not careful, with the present mods at the elm, this will be removed root and branch, and then we'll have to form a splinter group, and no doubt we'll make an ash of it, and the whole lot will be conifer good.

  19. The owner of the Lightship has been guilty of a great many wrongs in the lead up to this regrettable state of affairs, as I have already said in an earlier post, and is undoubtedly the main architect of a good many of his own difficulties, but he is NOT the party to the dispute that is knowingly indulging in continuing illegal, or even criminal, activity in the course of it.

  20. I know you "get off" on being rude on internet forums but you really are a bit of a stuck record on this (and all other) occasions - I've already stated that I'd be very interested to hear why the ship needed to be taken from Liverpool. I'd await the evidence. If you're holding stuff back, then basing opinions on it and posting, then its not much use to anyone except yourself. I for one, can't take you seriously any more since your posts seem to have this single theme running through them.

  21. Two wrongs do not make a right and a national organisation should, in my humble opinion, be beyond reproach in their conduct, although I'm fully aware this is not the case in an awful lot of official organisations.

  23. A bit like the owner not paying mooring fees for a year and not having the right licences or permissions to operate as he was then?

  24. As above, really. This is the procedure to bleed fuel from the engine and fuel injection system. It won't get ALL the air out but will get most of it out, enough to allow the engine to start and then you can run it at higher-than-idle revs for a little while until its running smoothly.

  25. I agree, he, along with a few others, is missing the point. However, it would be very wrong to believe that this disgraceful and quite unnecessary episode is anything more than the result of C&RT being in a position to extend the scope of their destructive and malevolent influence beyond merely our inland waterways. The long running dispute between the old lightship owner and C&RT, it has been festering for over a year now, has seen much wrong, and fault on both sides, but those responsible for the running and administration of the old South Docks now under C&RT ownership and control have singularly failed to handle it in a way that measures up to what can, and should, reasonably be expected from such an organization. Rather than working towards an outcome beneficial to all or most of those concerned, including and especially themselves and the city of Liverpool, they elected to reduce matters to the level of a personal and very expensive squabble focused entirely on nothing other than depriving yet another individual of his boat. The events of last week, culminating in the "Planet" being moved at enormous expense, and for no good reason, from C&RT's Canning Dock to C&RT's Sharpness Dock, were nothing more than a festival of negativity, bloody-mindedness and spite, and I think the fact that they proved themselves incapable of rising above such conduct speaks volumes as to the sort of organization C&RT is, to say nothing of the calibre and worth of it's management.

  27. While moored in front of the op in Sale this Sunny Smith character approach me and started on about the rules, l explained that I read the same as I use this route every year, he then started reading me the riot act so I put the boat in gear and waved goodbye. While walking back to my boat in Lymm the following day I spotted the same Smith character approach the op's boat yet again and hold what appeared to be a tablet against the window then move on to the boat behind, at this point the lady on the op's boat came on deck and required as to what he was doing taking pictures through here window,Smith got quite nasty and told here she should know who he was as they had spoken in Sale the day before. I consider approaching the same vessel within 15 hours with the attitude that Smith has as totally out of order

  28. I'd fit a CO detector to the front of my boat if I thought it would help those on this forum who believe canals and boating is so serious that any light heartedness must be stamped out so quickly. Even to the point of editing somebody else's post instead of placing their grumpy reply in the right box.

  30. Whilst that is unquestionably what C&RT have been doing with regard to waterways specific legislation until a few days ago, they have now grown sufficiently in [misplaced] confidence to progress to the illegal seizure of a vessel under what amounts to their own amendments to the provisions of the 1977 Torts (Interference with Goods) Act, which is UK statute law, and therefore separate and independent from any of the statutory powers they enjoy, and abuse, under any of the various BW Acts. Up until the moment when "Planet" passed through Canning Dock gates into the Mersey, C&RT were entitled, as creditors, to retain possession of the vessel as bailees exercising a lawful lien over a debtor's property which remained on/in their property/premises, ie. Canning Dock. From the moment when the vessel entered the Mersey, C&RT have been illegally in possession of another's property without the entitlement a Court Order, executed by a Court appointed bailiff, following on from a Debt Judgment would otherwise have given them. Their prior stated intent to retain possession against payment of a claimed but unspecified sum of money, including removal, towing and storage charges, for which they have no Debt Judgment, makes a criminal act of the subsequent seizure [for the sole purpose of removal], and the continuing possession of the ship elsewhere than in the C&RT owned Dock. C&RT are in big trouble with this, and they have only themselves to thank for that. They were informed, in writing, on the morning of 21 Sept 2016 that what they were proposing to do was unnecessary, ill-advised and illegal, but they elected to go ahead regardless, and it will cost them dear.

  31. I can understand those who have had a problem with CRT over say licences being upset, however that does not mean that everything CRT do for ever more is either wrong or suspect. There are some on the forum who have had no problem but treat everything CRT do as automatically wrong. The problem CRT have which few seem to acknowledge is they are trying to run a system under 21st Century conditions with 20th Century laws (and many even older) the problems of the system today are different to what they were in the 90s. CRT aren't equipped with the correct powers for the modern system (I know some particularly those who have had problems will disagree). . They are left trying to bend the laws and regulations to fit modern conditions sometimes they get it right sometimes they get it wrong. Some on the forum also seem to forget that CRT's brief is not purely about boating and so object to some of the things which are obviously (to me at least) intended to be humourous and aimed at the casual visitor. It isn't to me wrong to try to draw people attention to ducks on the towpath by saying ducks at play. However to some CRT did it so it is wrong. Those who automatically (or for good reason) have a down on CRT also are continually trying to persuade everyone else that CRT are always wrong and harrying every boater. A casual reader who hasn't spent enough time on the forum will IMO get the wrong impression and be put off. Yes some have a problem with CRT and justifiably but the majority of poster and boaters I have talked to find CRT perfectly reasonable to deal with and manage to baot with no worries or concerns.

  33. Oh come on.You made an outlandish, almost certainly incorrect assertion which you couldn't back up. Now you are not going to become right by attacking someone who calls you out on it, the course is put up or shut up but no, you decided that condescending sarcasm would prove your point. now the idiot idea that if you don't believe most boaters can't stand CaRT they must therefore believe they are perfect. This is the kind of "debate" that has done the forum great harm in recent months. Re examine your attitude please.

  34. I think common sense would dictate that this is not OK at all. The boat's location may be a public place, but the boat itself is clearly not a public place. Directly analagous is the notion of someone taking a photograph of a street scene which includes your house; that is entirely different to walking up to said house and photographing the occupants through the window.

  36. Folks, the solution has been staring us in the face. Simply transfer your wee into empty Coke bottles, leave them in plain sight on the roof, and go for a walk. By the time you get back, they're sure to have been removed by one of the 'piss takers' we read so much about on this forum.
