  2. When I last spoke with Andy he was very pleased to be off C&RT waters and out of their jurisdiction, but he didn't rule out a return to the Nottingham area at some future date. With this in mind, and for the benefit of others either in, or likely to be in, the same situation as Andy, I have secured some additional mooring rights close to my own mooring at Barton-in-Fabis on the Trent, a short distance upriver from Nottingham. These moorings are, as of now, available for periods of up to 12 months, on private land not subject to any form of C&RT control, and as they are located on a PRN river, outwith the scope of the loosely and incorrectly worded Orders that C&RT obtain from County Courts.

  3. Content and the actual website itself are two completely different things. Proper custom designed websites no only look better, they rank better in search engines and come with a control panel so the business can update any/all of their content to their own choosing. Unlimited pages, blog posts and changes. Content and the actual website itself are two completely different things. 4. Indeed, JG have a very good site which recommends clip spacing distances and many other useful bits of information on using their system including videos which the OP may find useful

  6. Whilst I wouldn't parallel 1mm2 cables, it is common practice in large power installation to parallel several large cables, simply because you cannot get cables of a large enough cross sectional area from a single cable. The largest CSA low voltage cable commonly available is 630mm2, and I have seen 4 of these in parallel per phase on large power installations. If you must parallel cables, it is imperative that a secure method of terminating the parallel cables is used, to minimise the chance of one becoming disconnected and overloading the remaining cable(s).

  10. The reason for the installation of the safety gates is very simple, they (peel Holdings) are having a panic attack about the Pendleton Fault system, which is creeping. There is a major branch of this fault crossing the canal just to the south of the East Lancs Road, it was moving at about 2" a year, last time I heard tell of it a few years ago. There are already safety gates protecting this and the bank is piled with the largest piles you will see on a canal or not in reality, they are 80ft piles, they are massive and mostly in the ground! They have been advised that as this is not the main fault line, that they also need to protect for it moving in other places. Thus the new safety gates. If you think this is all tosh ask your self why the M62 has lots of bumps in it, which the highways agency never seem to fix (Actually they do them about twice a year) This is where it crosses Glaze Brook to the east of Junction 11. Its the same fault system moving there are well. This movement may be related to old mine workings but it may not be. and because of the "not be" Peel and the Highways agency have to pick up the tab. -- Cheers Ian Mac

  14. Quite right, MJG - I even awarded you some in the good old days.... Sadly, nothing to do with reputation, unfortunately - proven again by this thread. Further, this "quantitative easing" or "dumbing down" has only lessened their worth - bit like many of us oldies feel with our good old GCEs and hard won A levels of their day .................... . 'tis the not so new beige I believe - and not so "in"!?

  16. I'm afraid it was a general whinge about whingers. I've always thought that 'continuous cruising' is something you can only do properly if you're retired, and the kids are all working. Or if you're a coal boatman, or other roving trader. Just my opinion. ETA: I may have responded to a different thread! Oops!

  17. Apparently the tunnel could now be closed 'into monday' as they couldn't fix the boat due to bad weather. What a joke. I am about a mile from the tunnel and we've had a few light sprinklings of snow, none of which has even settled.

  18. The comment was made slightly tongue in cheek as it is the only boat on the canal system with the name Helvetia. and most regular posters will know it is our boat. We have been around for nearly twenty years and have visited most parts of the sytem in that time, often encountering forum members on route. So not really a secret. Have you considered that as someone who neither declares their name, age, name of their boat, or their location, some people may think that making critcal observations about others is "rather unsporting"

  20. My cat has never wee'd on a bean bag, dribbled on my chest or puked on my pillow. She has left many half-shrews. I tend not to tread on them by turning lights on when it's dark. My cat has also never: barked incessantly, smelt horrid, rolled in shit, bit a child, been excessively needy, jumped up at people, trod mud everywhere, expected me to pick up her poo in a plastic bag. There are drawbacks to both cats and dogs. The doggie drawbacks seem far worse to me. Others will disagree, I'm sure.
