  3. I have emailed CaRT for an explanation of why their guidance for overstaying is unlawful, if that's the right word. I doubt they will reply though.I will go for a formal complaint to highlight it if necessary. A. The trust has no authority to authorise or not authorise an overstay, B, No evidence HAS to be provided, it is voluntary. C. CaRT has no authority to charge mooring fees for any overstay. D. There is no time limit. Within reasonable bounds.

  4. You obviously have some sort of problem with Mr. Loafer so why don't you come out and tell us all what it is instead of following him around the forum shitting up threads with your sniping.

  5. A kindle also has to be about the worst literary invention in the world. It's only benefit is the space saving aspect. The phrase page turner and a kindle are hardly a good fit! A world without books would be like the sky at night without stars. Keep the bloody kindle, I'd rather leaf through a book and pass it on to someone when I'm done with it than hit delete to free up some space. I bet you can't easily start a fire with a crap kindle like you can a crap book either

  7. Narrowboats did not generally have weed hatches until wimpy leisure boaters came along. Even in the 1970's hire boats often did not have them. I was shown by a former boatman what to do - dropping the skeg on a cill. Not the best way to a sleepful night but it worked - especially as this was in the middle of the Wolverhampton 21 and it was a whole heap of wire wrapped tightly around. If we start on the thread on a my-clogged-prop-was-worse-than-yours competition will may well break the record for thread length and make Pillings Lock look like a short story!

  9. Why the cynicism? They are hardly payed a fortune. Just under £3000 bi annual retainer, plus just over £13 an hour attendance fee, and that is for a fully qualified Firefighter, Trainees and those partially trained get much less. I wonder how many paople would do a dangerous job saving other people's property (and lives) for that sort of pay.

  10. The two share boats we had used to use 2 bags (50kg) of Taybrite per week if left on 24/7. One had a Morso stove, the other a Villager. Current boat has a Kabola Old Dutch oil stove, which uses about 0.25 litres of diesel per hour on its minimum setting. Never needed it any higher to warm a 60 foot boat. At current diesel prices, little or no difference in running costs between oil or decent quality coal.

  12. Hey it happens!! It's only stressful because you don't know what's gone wrong the imagination then takes over and you think the worst. Next time it happens you now know what to do!! It's a voyage of discovery this boating lark ;-)
