  1. Nothing wrong with CRT it's just a minority of boaters who think the rules don't apply to them who make a lot of noise. The vast majority of boaters just get on with enjoying their boating, complying with the licence conditions.

  2. I think it was the Lamprey. Another year the steam powered iceboat Laplander went. If I recall it was organized by the Canal Boatbuilders Association who got lots of publicity and were able to sidestep the difficult decision of which of their members boats to exhibit. Paul

  6. Not 100% sure of that - the vast majority of boaters have home moorings and nip out for a few weeks here and there. We are never likely to come into any real contact with CRT's enforcement unless we break down too often. It's different for the minority of CCers and liveaboards, again most of whom follow the obvious guidelines, but sometimes come into collision where it all gets a bit woolly. No-one's fault really, apart from the politicians who can't draft legalities so the meanings are clear to everyone.

  7. Life is too short for self pumpouts. Pumpout bogs cost money to run and if u aint got the money to do the job buy a proper boat toilet which is very easy and free usualy to empty. If u need the in an emergency situation carry a roper boat toilet for when the pump out jobby is full or broken etc etc. Funnily enough most people I have met over the years who r in the pumpout school carry a proper boat bog ( just in case ) lol but I have never met anybody with a proper toilet who carried a ( Pump out system ) just in case. 8. Using a manual pump, phew, I thought you meant scooping it out by your own hand. Only done this once as our pump out pump is for emergencies only. One hand to work the pump, the other to hold the (short) hose into the container. What I would like to see is 1-1/2 BSP fittings at all pumpouts so that self pump outs could be done safely and cleanly. Most plastic containers have a screw cap so you could find a way to fix the hose to this, but take care not to pressurise the container! .............Dave

  10. No not a bunny boiler, more of the fluffy type, and we have a pump out , Could try casting me about but only if your into weight lifting and don't have a bad back , hip , knee or anything else you don't want strained . Pleased to say been married for 30 years now , to the same man .!! And he's still here. Wouldn't have the inclination to find another burrow very happy with the one I've got . If husband wanted to De - camp to another fluffy bunny .... not that I think it's likely , I'm not the boiling type , if they don't want to stay , no point in begging , they will only go anyway and if they do stay for a while your forever looking over the stern rail . Our bunny is tucked up in a house with us near London for the the next few months , curtsey of a patron , so I'm not likely to be walking the towpath for quite a while . Miss our boat but handier for work this winter. Only posted to enquire on behalf of a friend , just incase anyone felt inclined to p.m . Me . No arms twisted . Also I am trying to get a police crime number from him but he might just chalk this one up to experience . We know how it feels . One year we wrote off 55k worth of bad debt( 6 different Ltd companies), almost finished us . Bunny

  13. This is all true, but there's an even more fundamental reason why CRT don't allow boats to shuffle between 2 locations. Money. Many liveaboards take a home mooring because they are tied to an area. They pay handsomely for that. If you could stay tied to a very limited area without paying for a mooring, many people would do that. It would lead to less revenue for CRT through their direct managed moorings and less revenue to private mooring providers, which would lead to boatyards and marinas going bust. Having a boat and expeciting to shuffle up and down a short stretch of canal is inherently selfish as all boaters ultimately suffer from the reduced revenues caused. I know that's a contraversial view but there you go. The biggest single issue facing the waterways over the next few years is that of reduced funding. We shall see what happens but I expect a crisis point to be reached in 5-10 years when canals may be closed. I have very little love for CRT, but its they who are responsible for our canals and restricting their revenue streams can only be bad. I just wish CRT would drop their core policy of pissing off boaters at every single opportunity.

  14. I disagree. CRT drawing a line in the sand and stopping this type of behaviour benefits the canals and by extension boaters, fishermen and everyone using the cut. Looking at the bigger picture if CT stopped enforcement the cut would rapidly be filled up with CMers, in my opinion. You may disagree, but in my view if there is going to be enforcement at all, a line has to be drawn somewhere, and Jeff happens to have fallen on just the wrong side of the arbitrary line. So if you agree any degree of enforcement is necessary at all, the debate is actually about where the line should be drawn. I'd be interested to hear who here honestly considers there should be NO enforcement.

  16. When I first became a liveaboard it was BWB and everything was fine, abide by the few easy rules and do your bit and everything ok. Then it became BW and everything was fine, abide by the few easy rules and do your bit and everything ok. Now its called CART and everything is fine, abide by the few easy rules and do your bit and everything ok Tim

  17. I would second this. Also its nice in fact very nice oop north on the big system with moorings a plenty so you could jack your jobs in daarn souff and move somewhere nice to live instead of that sh--hole London. Thats why bnoat ownership is so great it enables moving around and escaping a dump. Tim

  18. Personally, I don't mind noise if I know when it is going to stop. I just say 'this will stop at 5pm, is that ok? or summat. I wish more people could be like that.
