  1. His boat is moored right next to mine and the generator is really noiseyI do have a life one where I try to live quietly on my boat until someone comes and intrudes on my peace that's not moaning that's just stating s fact. The two week rule is also in the terms and conditions too so you can't have it both ways.

  2. I think you are being unfair to the OP of the thread you are mocking. Whilst he shot himself in the foot mentioning some of the things he did to an audience who proclaim "nothing to do with you" right up to the moment someone annoys them, his primary point is about the noise nuisance and with that I totally sympathise. It can be very wearing. It's not like you to be so lacking in empathy.

  5. Someone is not a "fellow boater " if they are calling me all the f's and w's under the sun because they are being selfish after I have very politely asked them to consider the effect they are having on those around them!It is not then a rant to highlight they are not a genuine cc'er as they choose to not move and abuse others. CRT also have plenty of residential leisure moorings themselves. The bottom line is if you want a mooring then you pay otherwise move but people like you supporting selfish idiots rather than people who play fair are the kind of people who will mess it up for everyone else.

  7. People have asked for a comparison between the Rochdale and the Wallsall - my own view, having travelled both recently, there's absolutely no contest: the stretch in Rochdale town itself is by far the vilest, rankest, most squalid bit of canal I have ever travelled. But it was small pain for major gain because it is a cracking canal and don't let it put you off, it just has to be endured for a short time. I for one will be writing to Mr Percival and suggesting he gets down to Specsavers so he can change those rose tinted goggles he's wearing.

  8. If you are not into confrontation then you can do little about the noise. However you can solve the "taking the mick" the "bridge hopping" and the "getting sloshed" problems by relaxing and ignoring them. I find it's best to enjoy your own life and not worry about how others live theirs. Frank.

  11. On the 18th of October 2013 Mike Carter arrived at P.J. Barber's Boatyard and carried out a survey on Python which effectively condemned her hull until such time that some fairly significant repairs could be carried out. There followed a period of Chesterfield Canal Trust (who own her) trying to raise funds to get a proper job done, Yes we could patch her up but we would be committed to patch after patch, and probably a chunky bill every few years to get the next bit patched. We wanted to get a new bottom on her, cut out all the corroded footings and by doing so give her a new lease of life. Eventually (after wasting far too many months on Heritage Lottery Funding) we managed to secure a £15,000 grant from The IWA (Keith Ayling Bequest) which would allow us to get the work done. This was quickly followed by £1,000 from National Historic Ships and CRT supported us with a further £4,000 which allowed us to get her engine rebuilt as well. It has been almost two long years since that survey but finally today she was re- floated: Paul Barber has done her proud! I cannot even begin to describe how pleased we are with the quality of the work he has carried out. Mike Carter came to inspect the work and said ""All the work, without exception, either meets or exceeds expectations" Python is now a full FIVE inches narrower than she was and so narrow locks should hold no fear for her any more. There are still a few little jobs to tick off the list before we can bring her home but I really do feel like today is a milestone in her history and it deserves a small celebration To Python:

  15. "8. You must comply with the conditions of any planning permission for the Mooring Site (if appropriate) and comply with relevant laws, byelaws, Site Rules and special conditions, including any concerning your private use of the land at the Mooring Site...13. You are responsible for paying Council Tax (if applicable) and all gas, electricity and other services used by you at the Mooring Site." Central Beds council certainly thinks it's applicable. As does North Warwickshire. And that's just two that I know of, I'm sure there's others. And as for other local authority regulations re council tax, you can do your own research on that. I know of three CRT owned leisure moorings in different parts of the country where one or more (but not all) the liveaboard boaters have to pay council tax. One because he claims benefits and therfore appeared on the council's radar, and one who was allegedly grassed up to the council by another boater and who also ended up having to pay council tax This isn't just about CRT. It's about local authorities regulations we're bending too So back to my main question at the beginning: which boaters get to decide which regulations are acceptable for another boater to skirt round, and which regulations being bent should we be reporting to the relevant authority? And importantly, why and who has the right to decide?

  16. It's nothing to do with a sense of right and wrong either. It's pure spite. There's some that absolutely cannot stand that some are getting away with something when they themselves are not. They fall back on ideas of right and wrong to mask their petty spite. They talk about theft of public money, when in reality they couldn't give a single toss about such things. They don't like individuals getting away with something. It's easy to cut through the bullshit of morality and right or wrong and reduce it to a measurable, material set of conditions. If they genuinely cared about ideas like the public good then they would do the opposite of your suggestion and instead of worrying about the person with barely a pot to piss in getting away with a licence fee or ct payment be up in arms over corporate tax avoidance. That's institutions though, it does nothing to sate their vindictive hunger.

  19. What's wrong with Jethro Tull? I was moored next to Ian Anderson for years, fine chap, and what balance. Stood on the foredeck on one leg tooting away. I suggested a conventional horn for signalling but he wouldn't have it.

  20. As usual, you haven't bothered to read my post before slinging insults about. No surprise there. I realise that you find it hard to appreciate that sometimes it's worth being honest about one's reactions, but there you go. A seriously anti-social (abusive, aggressive, thieving) boater was removed by someone he irritated enough to set fire to his boat - not necessarily a boater, by the way - we presumed it was a matter of thieves falling out - and everyone in the area was pleased he was gone. Would have been a lot better done almost any other way, of course, but at the time neither the police nor BW were interested - and i did say that i didn't condone the action. Didn't stop me being pleased he was gone though. I presume you would have been sorry.

  22. That's entirely the point, isn't it? The reason I pay council tax and get my licence is because I can, avoiding paying would add a layer of complication to my life and an element of looking over my shoulder I can well do without out. To draw the comparisons you have there shows a staggering lack of understanding of what's going on. One set are abusing positions of power and privilege the others have no power at all, they're literally eking out an existence in the spaces in between.

  23. And there is you leaving the marina in the summer because it is too noisy. Hmmm.

  24. The argument isn't helped by using a term of abuse to describe the other boater in the thread title - continuous moorer. Richard MORE: Y'know, I'd be far happier with a thread saying 'there's this bloke who moors opposite, makes a shocking mess, runs his generator late and swears at folk who ask him to stop'

  25. You've misunderstood me or I haven't made myself clear, you said that he dosent have permission to store wood where he is. how do you know this? Presumably if he dosent have permission to store wood, he has permission to be there with stipulations? Just to clarify, Antisocial behaviour from noise, litter and abuse should be challenged, everywhere. I agree if the OP has a case for that then that should be their right to complain. It's the bit about I'm paying so why aren't they that reduces the argument. I'm with BSP on that.

  26. I've got a boat licence, I pay council tax. I couldn't care less whether other people pay or not. I'd never grass anyone for licence evasion, never snitch to the council. Good luck to em I say. The more they upset the provisional IWA types, the better.

  27. Surely the only important question would be if the are using the mooring as a primary residence, not the boat. Boats aren't subject to planning permission, moorings are.

  28. Correct me if I'm wrong would that not be a "mooring"It's quite simple isn't it really if you want to avoid the rules just keep a low profile! It's interesting you have highlighted the points that suit your own perspective while ignoring the others.

  29. Interesting how often this sort of phrase crops up in a "let's lynch a CMer" thread. I'm really sorry you've been cruelly forced against your will to accept a mooring, and have been therefore been made to pay to use it. Incidentally, do you live aboard? Is your mooring a residential one? How much council tax do you pay for it (mine is £800-and-something a year for my boat). And as for TV licensing when your only residence is a boat - that's a bummer, isn't it.

  30. OK. I'm going out today to find something to moan about that impinges in a non-violent way in my life. When I return I shall moan about it on an Internet forum where 50% will agree and 50% won't and 50% won't give a duck and 50% will complain about my maths. This will achieve....... ....precisely nothing.

  31. Sounds like a nightmare. To the others who think "let and let live", I'd love to see how it would affect you if someone plotted up next to you dumped rubbish, made nuisance noise and got abusive. It can slowly eat way at you and I don't buy this "let it be" unless you are saints. Antisocial neighbours can be really stressful. All you can do it log it and get in touch with CaRT - they will respond - whether it's effective, that's another matter.

  32. In the OP you mention that he is on council land, presumably he doesn't have council permission to be there. What about a complaint to the council on the grounds of his illegal occupation of council land combined with the anti-social behaviour.

  33. I don't think the OP is bothered by how this person lives their life except for the fact that he impinges on the lives of the others around him. In my book that makes him downright selfish and antisocial.Phil

  37. Apart from the important and appropriate hot air outlet trunking being in place as described already;--These engines are not designed to be boxed in too closely or too much especially around the stern end where the fan intake is. If the engine is under a cruiser stern deck then it should have plenty of space around it plus cool air intakes on the hull side. If say in the stern end of a trad style boat under a box or floor perhaps on which you stand to steer, the same applies, keep the box fully open at the stern end where its flywheel fan is. If your engine box or floor is like this I recommend for boating in hot weather a hinged flap on the top of the box say 1' square be made sited directly above the engines two cylinders which can be propped open a few inches or so to allow engine top heat to escape, this is what I've done on mine.
