  2. But you have no idea how big this particular dog is do you, how willing to be picked up, nor how physically able it's owners are to pick it up and move it about, even if theoretically possible. (I've carried 30Kg of very amenable and willing Labrador up flights of stairs, but it's far from easy, and many dogs wouldn't let you). I'm happy to accept their explanation - I imagine they must be fairly fed up about the situation, and I think this isn't helping them, frankly, if they are seeing this. OK in my view to say on here "I like the boat" or "I don't like the boat" or "It's a bargain" or "They will never get that much for it", but even though they have raised their personal reasons for sale, questioning them makes me feel uncomfortably intrusive, and I think they deserve a break.

  3. Let's not be too judgemental eh? We do not know (or need to) the full circumstances around this and in any case it is a free country you can choose to spend your disposable income on what you like and dispose of property when you like for whatever reason takes your fancy.

  4. Sadly there are ignorant people in all walks of life. I was fishing this morning and moved my rod parallel with the bank when the first boat passed and we had a good natured joke about the number on the canal. The second boat completely ignored my good morning as I reeled in. I was passed by cyclists who slowed down round my fishing tackle and said hello, and one who was doing about 25 mph and couldn't have cared less who and what were on the tow path. I adopt the sail before steam approach, the more vulnerable user takes precedence even if it inconveniences me. I remember one large walking group who were leaving the path (a bridleway to which I had legal access) and heading over a stile. There was ample room to make way for me on my bike, which had already come to a standstill and wasn't travelling quickly beforehand, but they chose to completely block the way and negotiate the stile as slowly as they could while glowering and muttering. Maybe a previous cyclist had blotted his copy book, or perhaps the were just miserable old gits? Rudeness is the prerogative of the young, misanthropy the preference of the old. Life is too short to dwell on either.

  5. Sorry, but it is FAR from ridiculous. There are a number of cases in other walks of life where people will go to some lengths to give themselves the appearance of being a legitimate authority, for a variety of reasons, whether financial, or to engage in enforcement of behaviour in others that the legitimate authority declines to pursue. http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/306925/Fake-traffic-warden-issued-35-fines-to-150-of-his-neighbours http://www.newsrt.co.uk/news/updated-bogus-traffic-warden-targeting-drivers-in-north-lincolnshire-has-he-got-you-2297702.html

  6. At the last meeting when CRTs decision on winter moorings was announced all the associations were "seemingly" in favour of what was announced which was fortunate as the decision had been made as the pre prepared press release was issued before I had even made it back home. If I recall correctly NABO submitted its suggestions on winter moorings which are not too far from what CRT has now announced (apart from the London exclusion) around the time they were announced in 2014 so I doubt this has been the main influence on the latest decision.

  9. Fully agree! Any member of veterinary staff can tell you how quickly a seemingly fit, healthy dog can go wonky... You will know this! Related to this, I have to say, absolute kudos and the utmost respect to the sellers of this boat for putting their dog first. When you get a dog (or other pet) by doing so, you are making an implicit commitment to care for said dog for the entire duration of its life, not "duration of its life until this causes you an inconvenience." Yet a disappointingly high number of people ultimately take the latter view, not the former, and so well done to these people for doing the right thing, and at a high cost to both their wallet and dreams too. Respect.

  10. I to cant understand why people want to be so nasty about a boat built by a man who has sadly passed away, its very sad that you cant support someone's boat sale. I wish Gloria and her husband a quick carefree sale and wish her good luck. now isn't that a nice comment.

  15. I thought 19 x 12 but I was wrong that would have been right for a 65hp, and the 19 x 14 would have been right for the boat pre stretch and with a 65hp. Very complicated these props.. So I have ended up with a 19 x 10 they repitched my prop straightened it out balanced and polished it cant wait to try it just to see if the puter got it right Peter

  17. Being a man of reasonable size (qv) I agree with you wholeheartedly. Very tall people don't live as long either! The square root 3 is about 1.73. 1.73 metres, for those who are metrically challenged, is 5ft 8in. Facts are rarely popular, which is why we never get them from Tory ministers.

  18. Far more likely they are CRT (staff or volunteers) and CRT management don't know they are doing it even if those on the ground do. From CRTs perspective I am sure they are not going to understand what the problem is.

  20. Opposite to most of the posters in the last two pages I do not have a problem with cyclists using the towpath. I do however get annoyed with boater that seem to think that the section they are moored up on become their garden, leaving chairs and other assorted things on it. When I step off my boat onto the path I tend to have a look around because I'm aware it's not my path and it has a wide variety of users. As when stepping off the pavement onto the road I almost always look first, despite pedestrians having right of way on the road. Must admit that I find the attitude of someone stood square in the path obstructing a persons passage until they deem their speed to be acceptable appalling. As with cars on roads I'm much more concerned with the ability and concentration of a driver than I am with speed. I personally believe the authorities have it wrong with their enforcement and more concentration / better drivers are what's required more than reduced speeds - the opinion I have of bike riders really.

  21. Even if it isn't him, he would be the best man to get the boats free. Whichever motor it is that's stuck, it will probably be just as keen to get away from him as the one in that video clip posted on here last February. If he gets dressed up in his boatman's uniform and walks along the towpath towards the bridge, whistling as he goes, then the boats will likely wriggle free and nip off down the pound on their own as soon as they see him coming.

  31. As others mentioned, you will need to know power consumption of the tv/lights. Once you know, this table could give you approx. state of charge.
