  1. Terry, for God's sake ring me if you are concerned about this stuff. I know the answers. I'm a broker. It's my job.

  4. When I fell in the river at the water point at Bardney (on the Witham), hubby had to haul me out as the river is deep there and the only ladders were in the lock. I wrote to BW, as it was then, to inform them, not complain, and when we returned 2 weeks later ladders had been installed. It is worth reporting these things.

  5. Isn't this just the normal rule that you can only moor on the towpath side unless it is specifically stated that you can moor on the off? I presume there aren't mooring rings or bollards, and the park keepers might have got fed up with spikes driven into the grass, or of not being able to mow to the edge. Most offside is private land, and you don't moor up to it just because there isn't a notice saying you can't. Just because it's a park doesn't make it a free for all.

  7. I'm not sure it does though. With all those vents open, a lot of heat goes up the chimney. You might as well have an open fire (25% efficient) vs a good stove (85% efficient). I certainly find that after lighting the fire and with plenty of draught to get it going, there is not that much heating effect other than close range radiant. But as soon as I shut the air flow down, it suddenly gets a lot hotter. Sure, you need to open the vents when you first light it to get it going but it is burning a lot of wood/coal for not that much heat output.

  9. So why did you not say that in your post? All very well making a post stating it can effect certain benefits and not explaining the solution. For that reason I think you were either scaremongering or you are now trying to justify the wrong information you gave.

  10. Yes most come with removable stats supplied and as mike said there is a tiny button that is the over heat safety device built in so as suggested the engine may have got this hot enough to trip out so needs resetting. Neil.

  11. My elderly mother receives single occupancy reduction on her council tax. All my bills and accounts have been registered at her address for a couple of years now, but about 6 months after i registered to vote at her address somebody from the council came round to investigate if she was pulling a fast one with the council tax. She explained that i lived on a boat and travelled all over the country, but needed to get my mail sent somewhere so used her address. They were happy with that and have never bothered her since.

  15. And to give some balance there have been (at least) two boatbuilder members of this forum who, faced with business difficulties, have wound their businesses down, completing all boats in build and paying their bills, leaving satisfied suppliers and customers. Just shame there are a few rogues who are so much less honourable.
