  1. It would appear that maybe you and Allan need to do a bit more research and look at the correct documents. I did do a lot of research at various times and the document you need to look at is the Articles of Association especially section 29. The Canal and River Trust like most charities have to have members and in the case of CRT they have what is called A Members and this is restricted to 50 Members (The Council) these limited members have actually a lot of powers that include the appointment and dismissal of Trustees (as in most charities the trustees are responsible to the members) CRT also have B Members that are also restricted in numbers and do not have quite the same powers. The Council also have a sub group (I am on my phone in America so can not look up all the details) that appoint new Trustees in conjunction with the Trustees. If I was not on my phone and away I would try and explain in more detail but maybe looking at the Articles of Association would be a good starting point.

  2. Thank you all for your comments. I will be distributing DC power for LED lighting. I will also use it to power small inverters for the little stuff like phone chargers, shaver charger, tooth brush charger, laptop charger etc. The suggested DIN connectors look as though they'll do the job. I just wanted to see how far I could push DC. Cable costs have set a limit on that. Respect to those who weren't derogatory.

  3. I am not a boater (yet) but do like the French in cases like this The vote with their feet As much as i love Grance but dislike some of the locals they do have some morals and in a case like this there would be a load of canal boats queuing to moor at this spot over the next year and would cause havoc with the local canal authority until something is done about it

  6. I've noticed these boats often, though not necassarily for the same reasons as you I reckon they must be built like brick outhouses and be fitted with buldozer engines, so you may well be onto a good thing caring for one of these old warhorses through its retirement. My tips would be to fit an adjustable throttle where the ON/OFF switch was and make sure you have enough money left for some kind of a repaint - even if it's only to signwrite a very big EX in front of CanalBoat Club! Best of luck with your purchase, I hope you get a good 'un. Edited to correct CanalBoat Club.

  7. 13 horsepower should be plenty, the problem will be finding a gearbox (Or, to be more exact, an adaptor plate) that will fit and reduce enigne speed enough to drive a propeller with reasonable efficiency. Good luck. If you get chance, you might want to have a look at and borrow the dimensions from a Springer Waterbug, or a Sea Otter.

  9. Because they can - fully residential berths at BWML arinas are at far higher cost than those that are not. Nearest BWML one currently giving prices for residential berths is Apsley, less than 10 miles to the South. Fully residential berth £6,836, (irrespective of boat length). "Grade 1" (non residential) £213 per metre. Even for a 21 metre boat that is £4,477, proportionally less, if not full length. So well over 50% more expensive if full length, and could easily be far more than that for more typical shorter boats. EDIT: And only "good news" to those able to pay well in excess of £6,000 per annum for their mooring, of course!
