  1. Sympathies to KenK The ingnorant sod moored on a lock mooring causing problems for others - plenty of evidence - guilty as charged. Now who's the dick?

  2. This place is hilarious. I bet that if I posted a thread entitled "Someone gave me a free beer" there's be open warfare by page 2 between at least three factions on some subject completely unrelated to beer.

  3. In summing up M'lud may I just point out that the evidence whilst compelling is not proof beyond reasonable doubt as the boater concerned may have encountered a tornado and believe himself still in Kansas! I will take any weasel run to avoid the obvious conclusion because I am considerably more Liberal than YOU. It is clear to any moron that the most likely explanation is usually the most obvious but I cannot except this because I am just so, so much more non judgemental than YOU. In fact, I bet you planted that boat there without the owners knowledge because it's far less far fetched to believe you have contrived this complaint and pictures out of malice than accept the obvious. This is because I have judged you, the verdict is guilty and the sentence is a sneer. I am just so much more insightful than YOU.

  4. Re the various comments in support or excusing his actions If you had bother to read my comments and also look at the pictures you'll see that I stated he didn't cause me any problems, given that I had never met him why would I have a vendetta? No he didn't move even when he was asked to and even when one of the hire boats was jammed across the canal because of his selfishness. I don't know if it was a shared boat but as far as experience he was single handing and had absolutely no difficulty operating the lock on his own. So he certainly knew how to operate a lock and therefore how mooring there would cause problems for others. The other two pictures are just to show available mooring, just in front of the lock and just after the second boat which is moored stern to stern with the one pointing towards the lock. He was asked to move by at least one boater and refused to do so. He stayed on the lock landing from 5.00 until 8.30 the next morning, inconvenienced a number of boaters when there was good mooring right in front of him, I find it difficult to understand why the need to excuse his actions. 5. If I come to a lock landing with a boat moored on it, I just moor alongside it as clumsily and as noisily as possible, and stomp across it heavily, dragging ropes and things across their roof. I once accidentally knocked a pole into the water doing that. I often manage to drop my windlass onto their rear deck. I don't bother to point out the bleeding obvious, and neither do I get stressed about it.

  6. The photographs were taken at Sandon Lock last Thursday, the boat on the lock landing arrived a little after 5 o'clock in the evening, single middle aged male with no health problems judging by the way he could move around. When he moored up the boat facing the lock was not present it turned up later, so plenty of space to moor after the lock landing, even after it arrived, space also in front of the other boat. He stayed moored on the lock landing until 8.30 Friday morning despite causing problems for boats arriving to go down the lock, including several hire boats a couple of which ended up across the canal. He didn't cause me a problem we were already moored well above the lock and normally the actions of other boaters don't set me off but this persons total disregard for anyone else really set me off. 8. Ah, what to do eh! Bite and think this is a blatant act of aggression to commence a heated debate. Reply to say at no time was I complaining as I pointed out in my post as it does not affect me; or reply to say that not all overstaying is down to the dick on board. He could be dead and I was suggesting that us boaters should be on the lookout for each other. Nope, I think I'll keep quiet. It's a good joke though.

  11. Naming and shaming is a good deterrent, perhaps not to the operator of Twelfth, but to others on here who might be similarly selfish. 18,000 members so on the balance of probabilities I'm sure not all are saintly. They might read and think "blimey, I don't want to have my boat plastered all over the forum, best not to moor improperly / overstay etc". and you never know, maybe mr 12th is a member. That said, some folk are so thick skinned and wrapped up in themselves that even a naming and shaming may not impinge! What was the name of the steerer, I must have missed it?

  12. Not sure, may have. I used to have one, with the Themis. I suppose from memory they were about 11" on the long (horizontal) dimension. Tim

  14. I have 60 ft boat as single woman and steering fine, can manage steering in locks fine but not yet tackled solo locking as family have escorted me on my trips...am novice, but love my boat, really really love my boat. She feels part of me. Find it difficult to stop her when parallel parking and getting into Marina slot and yeah if honest turning in winding place though improving but love my boat. You know if boat you have found feels right for you go for it. Advise getting someone along for first few trips but get someone whose chilled and not critical...ok got that wrong! Good luck, keep posting and enjoy...and did I mention I really really love my 60ft monster!

  15. Nearest available size above 12A, in the positive, at the battery end. 15A blade fuse would do nicely. If charge current metering is wanted then a self contained ammeter could be added, something like: http://cpc.farnell.com/hobut/f3pam602-20a/ammeter-0-to-20a/dp/PM11550?Ntt=PM11550 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ammeter-12A-Black-1-3-4-BSA-Triumph-AJS-Norton-/131039455284 (not cheap but nice for vintage eng panel ) A DC clamp ammeter/multimeter (aka 'clamp meter') may help: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=69198&page=3#entry1378873 Good point, though one thing about 24v is that if a cell goes short, the others only get about 10% over voltage instead of 20% with a 12V setup. Still not ideal but not so bad. cheers, Pete. ~smpt~

  17. Well, we know he moored there long enough for OP to snap some pictures. Anything more than that you are just taking his word on... "plenty of evidence"? Where? Still OP

  18. We arrived at the lock between Alrewas and Fradley (Common lock?) to find a boat moored on the very short lock landing, lots of folk on board having lunch. There was perhaps 6' of free space in which I could drop Jeff off. I commented to the folk on board that really they shouldn't be moored there because it caused a problem for others using the lock, but didn't get much reaction. I then somehow managed to bump them a bit - can't think how - at which point the skipper stormed out into the deck. I pointed out that if he was going to moor there he was likely to get bumped by people trying to use the lock. He started up, cast off and roared off at full throttle but not before telling me angrily "we had no choice but to stop here". Presumably the lack of choice was because it was the only place with bollards, and it was lunchtime and raining. It was an Anglo welsh boat but I say that only because hirers normally know better. Sort of wish I'd hit them a bit harder really!

  19. But I bet you had a suspicion that before long you would come out as the villain and not the out of place moorer.

  20. No excuse Ken, he's a dick Edit to add: I do think you should have had words though, the more people that tell him he's in the wrong the better. I would have approached him with something like 'is everything ok, do you have a problem with the boat, do you need a hand to move off the lock landing?' or something like that

  21. Why is the boat in a different place in the third picture? Also, i agree with CWM about naming and shaming. Personally I think posting pics of his boat on here is much more of a dick move than mooring on a lock landing, so you lost any moral high ground you might have had when you made this post. For all we know, this may just be someone who OP has a personal vendetta against that moored there for 10 minutes...

  27. I was REALLY fortunate on Saturday. After we passed Streethay I spotted a sign at the entrance to Kings Orchard marina offering Free Pumpouts during August. In we went and asked what was the catch, they said there was no catch it was just a publicity stunt. So we had our free pumpout and left without spending a penny, as it were, and were very happy. To pay them back I will say it seems to be a really nice marina and so far it's only half full.

  28. what a load of bowlocks some of you are talking, you ask CRT to define a place and they have, now get on with boating, if you seriously can't CC within the map they have given you then you really are taking the piss and deserve all they throw at you.
