  3. This thread : http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=67700&page=1 Has sort of lost its way a bit, and is possibly not totally relevant to what I want to say anyway. On the 8th June my Son & Daughter-In-Law (on my recommendation) went into Three to buy a SIM only package, I had suggested the One-Plan at £20 per month. Their primary usage would be for tethering and very limited use for calls / texts. They decided that as they did not need 2000 minutes a month they would save a few pounds and get the £15.90 "Ultimate Internet Sim" with 'all you can eat Data' and 600 minutes - when they returned home I asked if the Data was for tethering to be told "yes its unlimited, it says so in the contract" To cut a long story ........ After all of the comments / observations about Three on the above thread I looked closely at the package they had purchased to find out it DID NOT include tethering, it included all the 'phone' could "eat" After breaking down in tears about the huge bill they will have run up (downloading HD Netflix films at about 20-30 gig each) I got them to get off back to the shop. Having checked on the website that you can make returns with no penalty up to 14 days (ie Tommorow) They have just come back all smiles : The contract has been cancelled (under the 14 day rule) The new "One Plan" has been activated and backdated to the 8th June so any data they have used (loadsa Gigs I reckon) will be put down against their 'new contract' So - to all the doubters out there 1) There is a company that responds to customers mistakes in a friendly, sympathetic & helpful way. 2) The "One-Plan Sim Only" (as of today) is till available with 2000 minutes, 5000 texts AND UNLIMITED DATA TETHERNG

  5. This time last year I was on my way to collect my boat from brokerage to begin my life as a liveaboard. What a year it has been! Weather was almost identical but with added strong winds, which meant getting out of the marina was fun ...... Since then I've faced the biggest learning curve ever. As a hirer, I didn't have to think of lot more than where I was going and where the water points were! As a liveaboard, I have to think of a hell of a lot more. In the last year, I've fallen in once, travelled a lot, fixed problems on the boat(with the help of at least one forum member) ...... travelled more, popped my banter cherry at Buckby, met some great forum members, made new friends, was part of the parade team at last years Braunston Rally ....... the list is long ..... All in all, I've not regretted a single moment. I can honestly say that it's the happiest I've been in years! I'm looking forward to what the next year brings now ........ New people to meet, a lot more cruising. Fixing my leaky windows and the annoying leak near my water pump will be first but I'll be smiling inside as I do it! Thank you to all the members who answered my questions and gave advice. It was and still is much appreciated ..... see you out there sometime. Ross

  8. I take back everything I said on the Interactive Map thread. ITS RUBBISH! Are you listening Mr Parry? Maybe CRT should give up on their website. Cwdf is far more useful and reliable. Thanks Alf.

  12. I agree, but only if you have a bigger budget. Also, my understanding is that an IT has to be installed on land rather than onboard. If that is the case it won't suit many moorings. Plenty of people use GIs without a problem and a good, high-spec GI is perfectly adequate for the job.

  15. And a bent pushrod, and a sticking valve... I'm going to have to run a Thames pricing scale alongside the Midlands one, something like 'think of a number, then double it' Thank you Martin, Richard

  17. The Droitwich Barge Canal can be up to 30% Saline. When the BBC was filming Blue Peter with John Noakes and Shep at Mildenham Mill Lock a camera man put his aluminium carrying case on the cill for a couple of hours and was shocked at the corrosion etching. http://s1196.photobucket.com/user/outriggerian/slideshow/john%20noakes Near the Salwarpe weir in Vines Park a pipe continually runs strong brine and the locals have used it for years as weedkiller. The Oldbury phosphorous used to strip hulls and give them a phosphate coating, ideal for paint preparation.
