  1. What a lot of bull. CRT are not against CCers. They are against non compliant boats and piss takers using the canal as a statuc housing estate. If a boat and user does not comply with the law, then action should be taken. People cannot choose which law to obey and which not to. Well, they can but must then expect enforcement action. Now a debate over whether CRT guidelines are legal or not is another matter which only the courts can decide.

  10. Shame I am "up north", bumper cars would be such fun! James from wyvern hire boats will not be impressed if his customers can't get passed pear tree!

  11. I didn't select your post specifically, just as one of those with similar views. If you have relatives who died in the sinking I apologise. Otherwise I think you should leave the emoting to someone who has. As I said, I DO have relatives who died in the war, but I certainly wouldn't want people wringing their hands on my behalf, especially about some quite irrelevant jokey thing a couple of generations after the event - in the case of the Titanic even more generations than that. Did you boycott cinemas showing the film Titanic? Is it tragic that people enjoy war movies? Of course not, but that does not mean the people who do are monsters any more than those who created the images (or in this case some pastiche model). Tam

  12. hello there! i would just like to point a few things out and hopefully help with some questions and opinions that have bean raised in this thread. first of all, the price of 135,000 for this boat is such because the boat comes with all the top of the range extras already fitted! the craftsmanship that goes in to building one of these boats is of the highest standards and very labor intensive, just the carpentry work took over 1100 hours! on similar size boats for 80 - 90 thousand the quality of craftsmanship is not there or the spec of the boat is ( standard spec) or maybe the boat is built in a different country keeping the labor costs down? i think these boats are great value and make boating very affordable for many more people. but cant be directly compared with boats like Shackleton which is totaly hand crafted, not designed on a computer and made with modern machinery, which in my opinion gives the boat no soul, but that's just my opinion. as someone has pointed out its like comparing a rolls royce to a vauxhall , not that there is anything wrong with vauxhalls . the first boat built was at crick last year and came second in show, to back that up with a first place with there second boat must be saying something??? the drainer is forward of the sink so it dose drain naturally into the sink and the shiny black work top is solid Italian 30mm thick granett. and i know for a fact they are not driving around in expensive cars or living a lavish life stile, they are just passionate and proud to build quality luxury boats. any more questions i will try to answer as soon as i get them, thanks for your time.........

  13. Hi Mr Chubby... My psychiatrist says that I should be OK to talk to you again...and if I get stressed..I just need to take these little blue pills. RE : Running engine... When you start the Eber...it takes a fair bit of juice (20 amps +) ..because it has to get the glowplug going...hence...you may need to run the engine. Once it's been going for a short time..it's almost 'self sustaining'...as the glowplug is off...and it just runs with water pump and fan which should only be about 5 amps... Worth trying to shut off engine...once its going... Bob...(ahhh..these blue pills make Chubby's Eber so much calmer)

  14. Some CCers are just so touchy! In their minds, anyone who is a CCer is a "brother from another mother" (or sister of course, but that doesn't rhyme so well) and so any possible criticism of failure to adher to the rules is taboo! Anyway, perhaps the answer is in the terminology. There are boaters without a home mooring, and there are Continuous Cruisers. The latter are normally (but not necessarily) a subset of the former, but the former are by no means all in the latter category. So I am quite happy with the ACC and it's stated membership criteria. But if they have any sense (!!) they would not be supporting those in my former category who are not in my latter. As far as I can tell, they do not.

  15. 1, we were not "late" for anything. I have already explained we had plenty of time in our schedule. 2, I did not "run around" with my camera. I enjoy taking photographs and usually have my camera to hand at any time when out on the cut. My photos were not "evidence" but illustration of just how big the vessel is and how awkward the job of moving it without an engine would be. If I had posted a photo of a CRT employee standing with his arms folded (which I did not take) that would have been wrong. 3, your opinion is that posting photos and ranting helps there cause. My opinion is that people who are unable to allow sleeping dogs to lie and let this thread go to sleep are not helping their cause. I have had a reply from the moderators and they are unwilling to remove the thread. So each and every time someone posts a reply it will be be brought back to the top again causing more anguish for those hard pressed guys on the ground. I would like to think that the chap in question has had the dressing down he deserved. I would also like to think that by highlightiing his error other people will think twice before damaging the reputation of their emploers by spouting the wrong things to their customers. While I have been typing it tells me there are 6 new replies. Please guys - leave to rest any of your personal grievances with each other and let this thread go to bed. In the big scheme of things life is short - lets move one and let these guys get on with the job they do best - looking after our waterways - and CRT do a grand job of it!

  16. Why do people who engage in this sort of activity alway seem to try and legitimise their actions by using phrases like "The boating Community" and "Those who use the Canal" when what they really mean is " A small unrepresentative minority"? I would be interested to learn how many instances of illegal eviction of disabled or elderly boaters have actually taken place, and what moves the organizers have made to try and help those people secure suitable alternative accomodation through the Local Authority.

  17. Perhaps the guy in question should have thought of this before he started slagging off his bosses to the customers, one presumes he is an adult. Maybe slagging off his bosses to the customers is not the same as slagging them off to his friends... When you work for an organisation you dont go slagging them off to the customers simple as that, especially in this day & age of social media. As for the bit about photos taken without permission, it did happen in public. Are we now at a point where we have to ask permission to take photos in public just because someone might be doing something that they wouldnt want their bosses to know about.

  19. Are the hand rails right on the very edge of the roof or are they set in a little way from the side? There is not really a problem with height in Standedge as there is in Froghall, but it has an awkward and constantly-changing tunnel profile. Forget ideas like attaching castors - they might work if it was a regular brick-lined tunnel but in places Standedge has a rough and uneven rock face and you wouldn't want anything protruding that might catch. If you take it nice and steady and listen to the advice of the CRT chapperone, you should be able to avoid too many bumps. You should be able to avoid contact with the roof completely, as you can see that, and steer away from any overhanging bits that might appear. I found the problem was that there are bits sticking out further down, which you cannot see. If you hit a bit sticking out down below, it way well cause to boat to ricochet towards the other wall, which is a good reason to keep the speed down. You'll almost certainly end up with scrapes below the gunnels and perhaps some scrapes to the cabin sides but, with care, you ought to be able to keep the roof away from harm. The worst thing to beware of is protruding bolts which can seriously gouge your paintwork.

  20. Because I believe that Unmani's friend made a good and valid remark. This website is watched by CRT after all... I do not disagree with the OP having a rant, free speech and all that. However, I personally don't like the naming and shaming of a hard working and knowledgeable gang just because one lad had a bit of a grumble. Everyone says things that in hindsight they may have been best to keep quiet about, but I feel sorry for the lad and his gang for having it put on a social media website. You may have your opinion, as I intend to have mine. Regards, Lockie.

  21. I've been asked by a friend of mine, who is not a member of this forum, to post a reply to this thread. "I wonder if the lady who wrote this post has considered its consequences. CRT do read this forum and by her own admission she posted, ‘ it was a bit of a rant.’ but posting this on a social media site is not the same thing as having a bit of a rant with friends, where you can vent your frustration and then the conversation goes on to something else and its forgotten. We all have bad days at work occasionally and I am sure we can all relate to having a moan about our boss/management at some point in our working life, (especially if the person you moaned at seemed to have a sympathetic ear, even offering you cake!) but we wouldn't expect it to be published nationally for all, including our bosses, to read. I hope after reading this the lady may consider deleting this post and photographs. I often watch this team working, and they are all (including the one this post is aimed at) hard working men, one of the best teams in the region. Are we at an age where we dare not share our thoughts with anyone incase they are posted on social media and photos are taken without our permission as evidence!"

  29. Hi, I must say I am dissapointed that you chose to post your grievance on the canal forum despite our email to you today explaining that we are sorry that you are not satisfied with the cream, however everyone's interpretation of cream is different and to please everyone is hard hence the reason why under the add to cart we have the disclaimer 'Please note: The colour chart is only to be used as a guide. Both screen and printer colours will vary from one computer to another meaning this colour chart won't be an exact representation of the physical colours. If colours are critical please request a sample.' Unfortunately you did not request a sample of the colour and we sent the cream vinyl that we have been using without issue for the past five years. We have never ignored customers emails whether positive or negative, we aim to give good customer service and as boater ourselves, we would never sell anything that we are not happy with ourselves. As you said you are more than happy with the graphics and the quality, it is just the colour that you are not pleased with, therefore I do think publishing on a public forum where a lot of our customers come from is a bit unfair, however I appreciate that it is freedom of speech etc. Unfortunately we only supply the one colour cream as that is the only shade our supplier produces in the range we use. Matching vinyl up to paint as you have informed us you wanted to do is almost impossible unless you have printed vinyl instead of cut vinyl, however printed vinyl is much shorter life than our cut vinyl and we would not advise that for boat names. By all means feel free to contact us tomorrow by telephone on 01213143223 to discuss further but we would not be able to match you cream paint. Kind regards Michelle Hi We replaced the graphics as soon as we realised that we made a mistake and immediately sent you new ones, our printed graphics are supposed to last for three years unlaminated and five laminated. It would of been nice if you contacted us to let us know as we could of sent you a laminated pair free of charge, as you saw from the last contact we have good customer service and do not ignore customers. If you wish to call us tomorrow to discuss, please do so and we can arrange delivery of a laminated pair. Kind regards Michelle

  30. Yes it is.....but all you will see is a blue line as all the details are for the roads. Also it is virtually impossible to use one outside as the screen is not bright enough. I use a Satmap, mainly for walking, and that is very good but a little small for on a boat. There was a software package being demonstrated at Crick this week with all the canal info on it that looked very good but it wouls still suffer from the problem of reading it on an ipad in the open Remember phone maps only work if you have a signal.
