  1. For somebody who thinks the boat is inacurate, and should be 101% historically accurate today but was refusing to re-unite the boats original BCN plate a couple of months ago is an arse hole, in my personal opinion. SHAD looks really well. Well done to all the team.

  2. Latest Hi, yes the Rosie & Jim dolls are included in the price. The boat will be delivered to you with Shiply, eBay's official shipping company with a lorry. You are not resonsable for any damage that could happen on the route. As about the payment, the payment is not directly to me. The money must be sent to eBay payment agent. The payment instructions, as I told you, will be sent to you by eBay once the purchase is complete. Also you will have 3 days to inspect and test the boat before the money will be released to me by eBay. If there is something wrong with the boat, you will be fully refunded and I will get it back too without any extra fees. The shipping procedure will begin only after the funds will be secured to eBay, after the money will be deposited into eBay's payment agent bank account. I'm waiting for your reply. Thanks Reply Hi I'm so glad the dolls are included, it makes everything perfect. You say the boat will be delivered on a lorry. Why is it not coming on its own trailer being towed by a lorry? Will the trailer be be delivered together or separately. I still need to be assured the delivery vehicle will be blue. I need to insure the boat of course. My insurance company needs to know the CIN of the boat. Can you let me have this as a matter of urgency to get this transaction done. Would you like my address now so you can inform the delivery company, it's Hverfisgata 56, Reykjavik, Iceland

  3. Sometimes I don't know why I bother trying to share good news. Shad was docked last year, an is coming out again soon as soon as we have the all clear on our bostocks. The colours we got from Tony Lewrey and also looking at mendips original doors, and that's was the only place we could put the bcn plate due to the diesel tanks. And I believe David was contacted. Think this will be all from me on this website, I was so proud when she was done being the first boat I've worked on, and it just gets ruined by people pulling it to bits And we also have pictures of shad clearly showing the registration number is on black. And if that pic was taken at the end of their days Lawrence's, it's likely the red would've faded, as reds do. There was a good couple of weeks consultation over the colours, finding original parts of Anderton boats, speaking with tony and Phil Speight. I trust them over a picture

  5. I think a lot of people have made valid comments about the past, and I was so grateful that on the previous occasion you had given me the time and listened to what I said and agreed they have turned a corner. Of course there are still boats in a dreadful state at the moment, that was never going to be a quick fix, but hey, were getting there. We did Shad as a stop gap when we waited for Ferret to come out, and because we had the funds available then and there (like we did with Ferret and Mendip). We are currently fund raising for Merak and hoping to get started on her as soon as possible (very excited about that as shes one of my favourite boats) and theyre close to getting the funds to completely restore George. Its not just the staffing at the museum drastically, but also the mindset, and we are all determined to get those boats restored properly, rather than just tarting them up with a bit of paint to make them appear alright. So yes, I do think it is uncalled for that peoples first response is pulling apart good work (particularly as they have no idea just how much time and effort went in to getting the colours right, it was a tense couple of weeks!). I also think that anyone who thinks that since we have turned a corner, all those boats in a bad way should be completed by now, has no idea just how much work, time and money goes into it.

  6. Being mischievous - I have nothing good to say about racism, Russia's position on gay rights, China's human rights record, dog fighting, sexism, (morris dancing) - however, I think saying nothing at all would be a very dangerous position to take. "First they came for ....etc" edit - spelling

  7. Well I wasn't going to add to this thread but I can agree with the comments made by tiggers about bullying on this forum, as someone who was a longtime member of this forum before posting, on his first post was shot down by what I thought were the well "respected & knowledgable" people I can agree with her assumption of bullying. Probably because then! heaven forbid I was a lowly hire boater looking for some information. Now to the current time, as someone who works @ the NWM and was heavily involved with SHAD & worked with tiggers and the team on the restoration I wish the do ers would come & do & the non do ers would shut up and stop criticising! It's a pity that tiggers is a legal eagle, because she would then post on here the truth as she tells me over coffee!!!. Considering the resources and equipment the heritage boatyard have I think they have done an amazing job, I just wish people could have seen the condition of SHAD when she was stripped back. Well I won't "HOGG" this post anymore other than to let you know that I was the steerer on it's relaunch and had tiggers stood next to me making sure I didn't scratch it in a howling gale by the way (no pressure). Just like to say WELL DONE! Dave, Tiggers, Millie, Alex, MartYn and all the volunteers who made this happen. Andy B. (MCA Boatmaster /CRT Certified engineer & from the Black Country )

  8. Hi guys and gals! So sorry for the massive delay.....we officially moved on 28th December but have had one disaster after another.....on top of the lovely weather! Just a quick list of our wonderful adventure so far..... Moved on and after 2 days the diesel generator decided to pop open and spill diesel all over the back cabin. Then our gas bottles were leaking so only lasting us a couple of days. I got gangplank fear and couldn't get off the boat and then I started getting ill with a bug. Then Dean got stuck in Pewsey in the van during one of the floods and I was stuck waiting for him while he got towed back.....plus only had about £2 in my pocket LOL! The weather obviously hasn't helped but Dean managed to fix the generator. Then our propulsion problems started and we're in the middle of trying to sort out the gearbox etc which isn't easy with this old de-engineered kingfisher! Other than that, we're settling in and getting used to life afloat. I'm loving all the nature and being so close to the weather ....we've met some lovely people and they've all been great, helpful and kind...... I'll look forward to updating with some photos etc in due course, just wanted to tell you that we're still alive and hope that the weather isn't having too ill effects on you all........batten down the hatches xxx

  9. Cyclists do seem to be a channel for a certain type of really unpleasant nastyness in some people don't they? I suspect it may have a lot to do with good old fashioned bigotry and hate that can't these days find an acceptable outlet vented against other 'out-groups' of the past like homosexuals, immigrants, people with different coloured skin, young people etc. It is a human condition to hate those who are not like oneself or don't behave the same, class them up e.g. 'cyclists' and then to dress that hatred up in all sorts of self-serving rationale until it feels fully justified. It does start with hate though.

  11. Whilst I think your efforts are to be encouraged, don't you think you're taking this a wee bit hard? I imagined you to be made of sterner stuff. "Bullies"? Oh please! What, because some old grouch says he thinks the paint's the wrong shade, or someone else reckons the old girl hasn't been blacked properly? Do you really think that someone merely voicing, however grumpily, a personal opinion about something as trivial as these things constitutes bullying and "ruins this forum"? Come on, rise above it. I know what what old Ken Keay would have said if someone had told him the red was the wrong shade.

  12. Would posters please note we are now a charity and not a government run disaster so we need funds to maintain run and improve the canals and rivers so that we can use them . Suggesting ways and means to avoid paying licence fees and claiming back same fees would shorten the life of these waterways .

  14. Tiggers, as someone who has restored half a dozen historic boats, to varying standards it must be admitted, and is in the process of yet another long drawn out epic please believe me when I say that Shad looks very original and well finished.. There are always people, especially the self appointed experts who often have never tried to restore anything and certainly haven't considered paying out of their own pockets for the privelege who will criticise.; Just smile at them and ask to see their rivets. Regards, HughC.

  15. Been living aboard for over 20 years...still loving it. As others have said go for it. Although I'm only in my mid 40's now I too have had far too many friends pop off this mortal coil before their time....if you want to do something just do it. As my granny said you will regret more what you don't do! Cheers Gareth

  17. I was intrigued by the price of GBP 8416. I mean, that's a fairly precise sum, eh? And why not offer a bargain price of 8415.99 ? I'm still wondering why Britain hasn't yet minted the coin that everybody needs, the 99p coin!

  18. I went back to uni to do an MA in my thirties, and often found myself asking 'daft' questions in seminars. Nine times out of ten other students were wondering the same thing but too self-conscious to ask. I've since been on the other side of the fence as a tutor on first-year undergraduate courses, and I see the same pattern: puzzled faces, finally a 'daft' question from a more confident student, and gratitude all round (not least from me) as the blockage is identified and (hopefully!) removed. Moral of the story being: never feel daft about asking anything. If anybody is obnoxious enough to try to make you feel stupid for it, that says a lot more about their own insecurities than about your intelligence.

  19. Many thanks for all the helpful advice. Clearly I'm joining a very happy bunch who enjoy their life afloat - but then I knew that anyway from my experience on the cut. Have started the process and am now trying to fit a 3 bedroomed house into 55ft of narrow boat. I can see many trips to the charity shop and local tip over the next few weeks :-)

  21. Nothing happened, just found the area depressing especially the smashed up narrow boats with people on them in the cutting below the moorings opposite college cruisers (read deliverance). It seemed a shame as it was our first time in the area, just felt like Oxford had turned it's back on the canal, whereas Banbury seemed to make a distinct effort.
