  1. I think its time to raise a glass to Daniel who created this group. Today during discussions with other journalists the topic of membership numbers came up. CWDF may be internet based, not have a clubhouse, not have a monthly or quarterly publication but it does have 15,600 members! ! ! now thats more than IWA and well ahead of any other inland waterways based society or group that I know. Where else can you post questions ranging from boat wiring, painting, design, heritage and get sensible answers (most times!) from very well informed minds in usually the same day? This forum has a lot to be proud of, not only has it brought together a wonderful cross section of our community but its showing the lead now to those orginisations who are somewhat "living in the past". Its no wonder someone was a bit suprised when four reps of the forum turned up at a user group meeting, and why not? reporting on here beats any of the press sites and is way ahead of CRT's website. Well done to all.

  3. Hi Ange Yes assumptions are no use to anyone. I must say though that you have been in the wheelhouse of my daily drive and if you remember i cannot see anything around me only to the front. If something as small as say a narrowboat comes along one side of me and pulls in front of me I will not see it until probably too late as I am far too high up to see it down either side. It is much like the large wagons on the road that have idiot signs on the back reading " If you cant see my mirrors I cannot see you " but wallies still tailgate them often with dire consequences. Since the Marchioness disaster of which I am well versed legislation has been hugely tightened up and since 2007 a much stricter test has been introduced which invalidates Boatmasters licences pre 2007 for many craft, and definately for anything above 24 metres which is a completely different ballgame. Myself and colleagues dont even sniff the barmaids apron whilst a t work, I kid you not. Tim

  4. I've already posted my for the site. Reading the updates, including Bruce's about the relative merits of CWDF and the IWA, I'd already decided not to renew my IWA membership this year, so I've just taken great delight in donating that membership fee to CWDF.

  5. It wasn't a RIB, but a few years ago (2006 I think) a Police Boat came alongside just above Westminster Bridge, asking 20 questions including where had I come from that morning (East Sussex actually, albeit via Regents Canal Dock....) and eventually wanted to board, presumably to check for terrorists. Having satisfied himself, he stepped off towards his boat - and plunged into the Thames.

  6. You really do not understand at no time have campaigned against the IWA as a group. I pass opinions (my opinion) and yes when they single out a single group of boaters I will defend them I guess you think it is ok for the Vaughan Welsh's etc from the IWA to keep spouting false information and that is fine by me but when it is spouted and I see it I will react. As I said I am not in disagreement with what they said about Nick Brown I just do not like it that they use that as an excuse to keep up their Anti Continuous Cruiser campaign.

  7. Try just pulling the fridge forward by an inch or two, the improved air circulation around the hot bits (technical term) at the back often reduces running times. Steve (Eeyore)

  9. Why don't you try a wireless keyboard with the iPad, much cheaper and easier than replacing it? You can also get OpenOffice for iPad now, will deal with most Microsoft stuff though Google Docs is good too but you do need to be online, using data to use it.
