  1. Judging by his ' Good old fashioned canal rage' thread, Chris is actually one of these miserable sods that go out of their way to wind other canal users up. Just like the one mentioned in the OP's story.

  2. I don't think he's talking to the wrong people. You can't talk for everyone here - some people might be interested. I don't think he was asking you to do anything. He was just airing his experiences, perceptions, views and yes judgements too - very much as you're doing.

  3. The older I get the more convinced I become that the world is full of idiots. You just met one. Don't sweat it Ian and Leslie - he'll get what he deserves one day. Probably in the dreadful old folks home his kids stick him in because he wasn't nice to them either

  6. Do you have a big alternator? Does this tend to happen when the batteries need a charge? Narrowboat installations often use big pulleys to drive the alternator so that it charges at low engine revs. If this is overdone, you can end up with the alternator taking all the engine power at idle and as the engine starts to pick up, the charge rate picks up also and absorbs that power that should be accelerating the engine: it takes ages for the engine to speed up past the point where the alternator is maxed out, and the extra power can be used to accelerate the engine. MP.

  8. Well I'm glad you've never had a row with your wife. Or a bad day made worse my being in public with lots of judgemental people about. And Caprifool makes a very good point, perhaps he was made even grumpier by having to wade through someone else's shit to get to the elsan. It's easy to draw conclusions. It's even easier to call people idiots on a public forum without knowing the half of it.

  9. Their first behavior has no excuse. But to be fair, perhaps someone ells had left the Elsan in that state before him. Only aggrivating him even more. I think he might need ice cream too.

  13. Mooring chains and mooring pins, a mallet, a dongle or iPad, folding sack truck with a couple of bungee hook things (you'd be surprised how many things it becomes useful for), your favourite music, a cheap set of spanners (unless you intend to be a proper tinkerer in which case buy a good set), a brimmed hat for rain or shine, sun tan lotion, and some beer. That's the essential boating kit.

  14. A notepad and pen, leave it near the door you normally leave from, and note down all the things you wished you'd brought with you. Next to the pad, a large basket for all the things you brought and wished you hadn't. Then when you next go to visit relatives, take both the pad and the basket with you, steal what you need and dump the contents of the basket.

  15. Your drink fueled transgression pales into insignificance, compared to what I inadvertently posted, after consuming a bottle of Calvados, last year. Thankfully it was witnessed by very few people, before I deleted it (and no, I'm not saying).
