  5. Well we'll just have to differ on this then. Power = revs x torque so if you take a high revving, low torque engine and gear it down, as the revs fall the torque rises for a given power. EG if you halve the revs with a gearbox, then the torque doubles. I contend that a boat hull won't know the difference between a JP2 delivering 22bhp into a prop turning at 600rpm via a 2:1 transmission, and say an Isuzu delivering 22bhp into the same prop turning at 600rpm via a 5:1 reduction transmission. Can you explain why I'm wrong using technical arguments rather than unsupported assertions that the two are different? I'd be entirely happy to do it with an installation as I describe above. Because you and I have both taken part in hundreds of discussion threads over the years. I've gained what I think is a pretty good impression of your areas of expertise and weakness over the years from your posts on here. I can't believe you have never noticed any of mine! But it takes all sorts, I suppose. MtB

  10. They certainly are beautiful, and over the years I've experienced a few myself and hope to again in the forthcoming week as today we are going to our shared boat for a week. And very soon, like you live aboards I envy so much, I too will have the opportunity to experience many more of those wonderful dawns and dusks because I've just had an offer accepted on a boat so if the survey is okay we hope to move aboard around Christmas

  11. Yes folks i feel i'm really seeing the light now with this wonderful dark bulb discovery, for tonight i discovered a way to pack in lots more darkness into the jam jar rather than just let it sort of just float in all willy nilly like. ''Under pressure is the way to go and this how i achieved it. I glued a Badminton shuttlecock to the jam jars bottom, tied a length of string to the jar, removed its lid and whirled it around and round my head at a tremendous rate, just like a helicopter with only one rotor blade, this must have really packed loads of darkness in under pressure. The only trouble was i couldn't put the lid on to save all this extra darkness unless i stopped whirling and of course by doing that I let all the pressurized extra darkness escape. I couldn't see all this happening of course you understand as it was dark out there. Anyway my solution to this was to stick the lid to my shed door with a spot of the jam at just above head height, whirl the jar around up to high speed again and by great manipulation and dexterity whilst whirling managed to slam the open neck of the jar onto its waiting lid, and by grabbing it smartly and screwing it on i must have trapped lots and lots of darkness. I was interrupted a couple of times by neigh-bores illuminating my performance with bloomin torches and murmuring things like lunatic and bonkers but i just smashed there torches with a stick, ignored em and pressed on with the task in hand. I'm now sitting here by my stove all comfy and gloating over this jar of wonderful pressurized darkness on the table before me. And wondering To be continued bizzard.
