  1. David Mayall may well be a porthole twitcher (No double entendre intended) But seriously, he is not harming anyone, harrassing anyone, nor indeed being a nasty man for all we know. If he'd like to do what for lack of a better phrase I'll call a scientific type study of boats and mooring in his local area why shouldn't he? If you don't like mayalld then you don't have to, if you don't agree with what he's doing you don't have to. There are far too many people on their bloody high horses here, it's getting a bit depressing.

  2. Thing is Tim, Dave is not after information or an analysis of any problem, as can be seen from his posts, he has simply fallen out with a couple of the boaters on his canal who choose to live how they want and he wants to create trouble and ill feeling for these people. That's not really for you to say. I know how fond you are of spouting law, here's some for you; (1)A person must not pursue a course of conduct— (a)which amounts to harassment of another, and (b)which he knows or ought to know amounts to harassment of the other. (2)For the purposes of this section, the person whose course of conduct is in question ought to know that it amounts to harassment of another if a reasonable person in possession of the same information would think the course of conduct amounted to harassment of the other. and from Section 7 (2)References to harassing a person include alarming the person or causing the person distress. It is my opinion that you are acting illegally. I hope that the victims of your crime feel sufficiently the same as to report you to the police. We have established that this is not an abstract survey of any problem but simply your vendetta against a number of individuals. Unless those individuals reply on this forum and agree to your actions. I ask that the moderators take down this topic.

  3. You've forgotten to count the ones that arrived and departed between the two dates in your dossier. Your 60% is not a valid percentage of anything. understanding math and how to apply it is more important than using 'dave's approved' term for it

  5. Frankie what you want to do is listen to the people who spend the time and effort to reply to all your questions, when you start listening you will find all the answers are already there for you. Go back and look how many times you have asked the same question For example in this post about propellers.... go out and do us all a favour and buy yourself a Crowthers prop. I expect I'm going to get a load of shxte from this post, I will help any one, any where but Frankieboy you just don't listen mate. But fear not I am Open All Hours Off Topic Just where exactly do you buy the popcorn from on here ?

  6. To me, you HAVE to have a license, and mooring or no mooring is your choice, but you have to stick by the rules.

  7. dave in my very humble opinion and from observation (sorry I have no data to back this up) in your posts you seem to have 3 constants, 1. Everyone is breaking the rules on the waterways except me. 2. I am being threatened. 3. I am being bullied. dave again in my humble opinion (and again with no data) I think you need to grow up and get a life.

  9. It would be good if someone in the area let them know what was going on, and that they were being discussed on a national forum for dubious and unstated reasons. They might considered this to be harassment and intimidation.

  10. Just one point BW do not seem to issue Winter Mooring licences unless you are staying for the complete 5 months so they might well have paid for winter moorings. Also some people choose not to display a winter mooring thingy as it is just another piece of paper on the window and feel that as long as BW know they have paid for a winter mooring then why would they need to display it. I also understand that if you have paid for a winter mooring then BW do allow some flexibility as to where you moor. Think I got it on the correct thread now!!!! Dave you will also need to check with BW if your supposed over stayers have actually paid for winter moorings and I suspect BW under Data Protection will not give you that information, so suggest you knock on each boat and ask if they have paid for winter moorings. If the answer is no then ask them to move on as it is giving you problems by them being there.

  12. A lot of boaters don't know of those times when there were few rules and certainly no 'continuous cruising guidlines'. Life was so much more simple. Sue

  18. Spot on with that post said everything I was going to say. If I am honest all of the bank side BW staff I have come into contact with have been friendly and helpful. I even went to th extent of emailing BW last year when we got back from our Llangollen canal cruise to praise the BW man taking the mooring payments at Llangollen. Fact is yes some senior management is needed but they would have nothing to manage without the work of those on the ground. I'm sure there are a lot more people involved in the waterways who could do a much better job than those running them now. And because they have an interest already in the waterways would have a much better idea of what methods work and what don't plus what the waterways need. The trouble with this country is that there are to many people running things who gained their knowledge via uni and have not seen how the job works

  19. this matters not and does not even warrant saying. In present climes and reality, these salaries are rediculous in the extreme. Bank side staff are far more important to the canal system (IMO). The greed, obesity or self indulgence of these execs is unreal and not in any way relevant to BW's size as a business

  20. Dear all, Please forgive me if this has been asked before I have done a search but the Board software keeps telling me I have reached my bandwidth which means can’t view Pics can’t search I am a Professional Musician and Radio presenter and have purchased a boat with the intention of put my recording stuido onto the boat where I will be in a Marina for the winter and then will cruse about for the rest of the year. I have used a CAD program to make sure I can fit the Hammond, Piano, 5 Keyboards and racks and other computer stuff into the boat without rebuilding the interior. (It might List abit hehe!). I have a number of questions regarding Power when I am out on the cut; I bought the boat with a 2KVA inverter and it also has a standby Honda Gen and external mains hookup. I have 5 Leisure Batteries and was wondering how long I will get without running the engine. The MasterVolt control panel is not working so I’ll try to either get it changed or fix it. However, saying this I should have 550A to work with (if the batteries work!) And V*A = W, but this is s 12 volt system. If I invert the Voltage to 230v do I still have 550A? How do I work out how long this will last? My recording computer used about 1KW with the SAN disk array attached once the Hammond and Leslie are on it’s about 1.4Kw. Oh forgot to mention I also have an additional 1KVA UPS which will filter the mains so I hope the noise in the electrics are not amplified running the recordings. Are there any pitfalls in doing this? Secondly when I broadcast I need to be connected to the internet as this is then relayed from the Server to a number of transmitters and also across the internet. I have bought a 3G router and High gain directional Antenna which work. I was advised to go on the 3 network as this is the best for Data comms and I need an unbroken uplink for 2 hrs. Initial tests to our training/test server through the 3G router was a success but this was from my land based studio. We use clever software that means a 2 hr. broadcast at near CD quality is 41Mb. Has anyone had any problems doing large uploads over the 3 network. Thirdly, How easy is it to get a Shotgun license for a NB? Regards Bob B

  21. I looked at Solar when I was at the Boat show last week £700 for 65W The Honda gen will put out .9KVA (1000W) This should help. Is there a Noise limit in Marinas? i.e. no gen after 10PM? You are correct I run at 6KBs I managed to do this and hold a number of chat windows open so I think this is ok, I did a test with Speedtest.net I got 1Mb upload and 2MB down. I bought a Option Globe surfer III - HSUPA High Speed 3G Router so I think it’s best fighting trousers on! Thanks Bob B

  22. We were left with an uninhabitable boat,on a Saturday eve, due to the lack of water in the canal and it took 5 calls to the emergency help line before I had a reply to my answer phone. Basically the lock was leaking and hard luck. A friendly boatyard owner gave us a bed for the night and we ate at a restaurant. I emailed Sally Ash and the local manager but haven't had a reply. Sue

  25. Well done for thinking about this on your new build, its a good question to ask builders why they dont do it in the first place. As to the engine heat very simple, use a heat exchanger, see link to the idea being used for an ALDE. The waste heat from the engine water circuit going to the calorifier is extracted by the heat exchanger, and the heat is used in the central heating circuit. In the case of the ALDE you can utilise the central heating pump to circulate water when the engine is on but the heater is not on, (or use the waste heat when the engine is on to provide some heat and the ALDE is on to supplement it and bring the rads up to temp, thus saving gas). I dont know what the Webasto set up is but you will need a pump and switch When hooked to 240v its the same idea, just needs thinking through. Again the ALDE is set up for this idea as standard as the electric heater is built into the unit as standard when on land line http://www.ashbyboats.com/MeashAlde.htm Charles
