	I’m thinking of three options for myself and my boat in the new year.
</p>

<p>
	No actually only two. <br />
	1)Taking her to London, and trying to have fun in the capital, without theft or vandalism. Or someone dancing on my roof. <br />
	2) Getting her  to Amsterdam somehow. Either cruising as far to the coast as I can, craned out and put on a vessel, then traversing the Dutch river system to Amsterdam. Or just getting her craned out close to where I am moored, put on a lorry and driving there, ferry, or Eurostar, then getting craned out.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	What sayeth you?

	I’ve just bought a new boat and need to migrate it from Mercia Marina to Sheffield, which obviously entails the dreaded Trent, both non tidal and tidal.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’m new and have had a few lessons, and want to do the first and last bits myself <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	However, the Trent worries me, not to mention the size of the locks involved and having watched the near handbrake turns into Keadby Lock… I’m looking for some help - hopefully fairly soon <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span>I’ve spoken to a couple of places who can’t help due to other bookings, so asking if anyone knows who might be able to help. </span><br />

</p>

<p>
	Plan is for assistance from Shardlow to just after Keadby Lock, ideally someone who will skipper the boat for me.
</p>

<p>

	I placed this information for the first time back at the beginning of the Covid Pandemic and feel it is now time to update things. I have been cruising now for more than 3 years usually setting off from my home base at Whilton Marina near Northampton in April or May and returning for the winter in September or early October.<br />
	<br />
	I have travelled down to and through London, River Wey, Basingstoke canal, River Lee, Kennet and Avon Canal, Bristol Chanel, Gloucester, Worcester, Birmingham, Manchester, Chester, Llangollen, Ripon, York, Lincoln Derby, etc, etc. etc.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#fafafa;color:#333333;font-size:15.4px;">
	It is possible to cruise single handed but help is always welcome at locks and things like lift and swing bridges. For some time I have been "tagging along" with a family on another boat who do the same and also use Whilton as their home base but I feel it is the time to break free and go along at my own pace.

	If anybody needs a crew member I would be happy to help. I have been narrow boating for seven years. I have always hired a boat; I thought about buying one, but my wife suggested that hiring meant the boat would always be where I wanted it, also there would be no maintenance, mooring, or other costs.

	<span>In May last year, my father and I were lucky enough to take part in our first Birmingham Canal 24 Hour Challenge.</span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It was a crazy ride, 14 hours of boating on Saturday, an early start on Sunday (4:30 anyone...), breakdowns, rain, hail, thunder, and much more besides. It was also one of the most fun things I have done for a long time - it really lived up to the 'Challenge' part of it's name! We ended up coming 11th out of 25 entries.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This year, we have decided to enter with two ABC hire boats and we currently have one berth left. We're looking for someone who enjoys a challenge and would be happy to spend the late May Bank Holiday weekend on the Birmingham Canal Network with a group of like-minded nutters! Previous narrowboating experience helpful but by no means necessary <span class="ipsEmoji">🙂</span>

	Myself and the wife are looking for some help up on the Lancaster ,as relative newbies to the canals we are hoping to take a trip down to Glasson dock, I have never worked a lock in my life so wondered if there was anybody up that way that could meet up with us and spend the day taking us down and back up either the same day or the following day, I would gladly cover any traveling costs and would also buy lunch and refreshments en route or down in Glasson, I have asked everyone in our marina and nobody seems to venture down there, my wife is disabled so I am pretty much single handed so a bit wary to try it on my own, bit of a long shot I know but if anyone is local or heading up that way anytime soon any help or advice would be most welcome , by the way its a viking 23  so not the usual nb if that makes any difference..

	Hello,
</p>

<p>
	Is anyone passing bridge no. 161 on the Trent and Mersey heading south and would be willing to give us a tow to Wheelock? We have got engine problems and we're not in the best location for mooring and doing repairs. The <abbr title="Canal &amp; River Trust">CRT</abbr> have agreed we can extend our stay at Wheelock for a short period to get the work done, providing we can get there.
</p>

<p>
	As mentioned, there are no locks on this section. It's a bit windy and narrow towards Wheelock, but otherwise a fairly straightforward stretch.
</p>

<p>
	Here's hoping someone can help!

<p>
	Thanks for reading,

	I'm thinking of coming through Birmingham, and onwards up the fazely canal towards Tamworth.
</p>

<p>
	I'm looking for the right individual to join me just for one day, here and there, along the way.
</p>

<p>
	To serve primarily as a lock runner, so I don't have to keep mooring up every time.
</p>

<p>
	Some decent knowledge and experience of the canals would be preferable.
</p>

<p>
	Also some help researching the route would be very much appreciated, double checking for closures and bridge heights and that sort of thing.
</p>

<p>
	If it goes well, there might be further adventures at some point in the future...

	Interesting small ad spotted  on <abbr title="Dutch Barge Association">DBA</abbr> website - wish I was a bit younger!

	This is a long term position with the possibility to take over the ship eventually.<br />
	Pay is according to experience, minimum €1000 food, accomodation is free.<br />
	<br />
	MS Einigkeit is 62 m x 6 .4 and carries 500 tons.<br />
	<br />
	Aft accomodation: Bedroom, guest room, living room, kitchen and bath<br />
	Forward accomodation: Bedroom, kitchen, toilet and sink<br />
	<br />
	Engine aft. Mercedes OM404, heating system, Batteries etc.<br />
	Bowthruster Daf 180 <abbr title="Horse Power">HP</abbr>, Genset Deutz 25KVA<br />
	<br />
	We operate between Fürstenwalde (east of Berlin) and north west Germany (Bremen, Oldenburg and a few smaller places in that area). 95% of our cargo consists of animal feed (grain, soya pellets etc.)<br />
	<br />
	Because of our small size, we can operate in the small canals and rivers. There is little competion from larger vessels, so there is always more cargo available then we can cope with.<br />
	<br />
	We essentially work 12 month per year, sometimes the winter stops us with too much ice so we can go skiing. In the summer, we try to have a holiday for a few weeks, usually Italy or Spain. Sometimes we sneek in the odd day off like last Saturday in Berlin.<br />
	<br />
	We usually start at 0700 and tie up at 1900. 12 Hours days and 7 days per week sounds punishing, but it´s a relaxed "working" day. modern barges drive themself, so it´s more of a supervisory role. There is nothing to stop me or my wife to catch a few hours sleep while the ship is chugging along.<br />
	<br />
	I would not call my engine room automated, but during the day, nobody needs to go down there. We just check oil and water in the morning and there is nothing to do down there during the day.<br />
	<br />
	Loading and unloading is done by the port workers, we just move the hatch covers."</em><br />

	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	My wife and myself are planning on getting our own boat and we are trying to learn as much as we can while saving money.
</p>

<p>
	We are in Edmonton and happy to grab a train somewhere along the Lea Navigation to experience some narrowboating and learn things.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Not sure what that could involve, I guess we can help with locks if someone is leaving or coming to London that way. I don't think people do a lot of non-emergency work in that weather?
</p>

<p>
	She is an artist and I did few years in a proper shipyard loooong time ago so not sure if any of that is useful in a huge way.
</p>

<p>
	Day to day we do various computer stuff, I'm actually fine with fixing someone's computer while we travel and they teach me about engine or water or solar or anything.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm open to any suggestions really, worst case it will turn out it was a horrible idea <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="https://www.canalworld.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /></span>
