  1. Past hour
  2. Hold on. Where in my post did I query any figures? I never once argued the merits of either power source. I specifically didn't. I only said one thing. Greta and her disciples will only want to tell you the good side. I even pointed out how most of us are guilty of it in other forms. I also never mentioned whether everybody does know the full story or not. I only said that certain people won't divulge it. Well, why would they. Batteries may or may not be the answer to the meaning of life, I never argued that. So what have I said is BS? Nothing. You were reading far too much into what I said. Nothing has suggested what I do or do not believe in. Nothing has suggested how much people know or don't know. You just thought it did. It is a bit like greenies and nuclear. They hate it, so they only tell you the bad points. Politicians and any policy they come up with- They will only tell you the good points. Opposition- will only tell you the bad points. Look back. All I have done is pointed out why Greta would love Mr Jupiter and his way of looking at carbon neutral when it came to the buzz words of electricity and batteries.

  4. So it seems that using a vehicle of a type which, if ridden on a public highway, would be criminal offence, would not be a criminal offence if ridden on a towpath (other than the rare case where the towpath is also a public right of way).

  9. sold for 100k apparently! I would say that someone has got good value! https://www.auctionestates.co.uk/property/lock-house-lock-row-torksey-lock-lincoln-ln1-2eh-239828
  10. Does anyone really know what you are drinking? You may be interested to know that on the outskirts of Warrington there are several boreholes that are used to extract drinking water from aquifer's. At one of these boreholes arsenic leaches into the water through the bedrock. United Utilities were required to build an Adsorption plant to remove some of the arsenic before the water was fed into the mains. (Adsorption, simply put, = Very large filter!) Take note that I said some of the arsenic! At this particular site around 80% of the water was treated while the other 20% bypassed the adsorption process and was remixed before being fed into the mains! UU was not allowed to remove all of the contaminant - by law! (even though it was possible to do so). The percentage of removal / treatment depended of course on whatever the concentration of contaminant was in the water being pumped up and this was closely and continuously monitored. i.e., Adsorption percentage being treated was 'site specific'. This is not 'hearsay' by the way - I was tasked with writing the Company Standard / maintenance manual for this (and similar) Adsorption processes on behalf of UU. Apparently, a little bit of arsenic does you good! Personally, I prefer a large glass of malt whiskey!
  11. One can only assume that it is someone with what they think of as a floating flat rather than a boat. Of course, a floating flat should have access to the same services as a land based flat - including unlimited water. It is London ..........................
  12. It does now. It didn't originally, the whole back end was the fuel tank, the rudder tube ran up through the middle of it.
  13. There is a huge amount on .gov/UK regarding pemissive rights of way but in essence this sums it up : Permissive paths, sometimes referred to as concessionary paths, are not public rights of way and the public do not have a legal right to use them. They can play an important role in improving public access to the countryside. Providing a connection between existing public rights of way where gaps currently exist in the network. As permissive paths are not public rights of way, landowners may impose conditions on their use. This can include restrictions on when the public can use them and how the paths are used (e.g. walkers allowed, but not cyclists or horse-riders). Creating a permissive route There are two main ways of establishing a permissive path either: through a formal written agreement between the Council and the owner of the land, or by the owner of land granting consent in a less formal arrangement Usually, a formal agreement between the landowner and local authority is in place. This ensures the authority will address problems encountered by users with the landowner. The agreement can include:
  14. Maybe not, but even if you could make it up, it wouldn't be as bonkers as actually doing it! How much water do you need to use to have to have to spend every Saturday filling your tanks back up? How can that sort of consumption be despite rationing? Something doesn't add up here. Is this a cruise liner posting on the wrong forum?
  15. So, them needing to write all that in illustrates towpaths are not a public ROW. Special measures are needed to give the public a right of access. "Right of way (no hyphens), is the legal right, established by grant from a landowner or long usage (i.e., by prescription), to pass along a specific route through property belonging to another." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_way Arguably the clauses you list comprise a "grant from a landowner", so perhaps a ROW does exist! No doubt a court could make a ruling at enormous expense.
  16. Thinking outside the box. Don't suppose you fancy being CEO of the Canal and River Trust?

  18. exactly, and the beauty of a barrel sided boat built in planked steel is half the weld prep is already done for you!
  19. All that sounds good to me , And of course running welds can be used to your advantage with Bends in the plate G
  20. Welcome to the forum. Calling @Sir Nibble
  21. Thanks for your kind words Graham, we're using a combination of mig and stick, weather dependent obviously, we plan to use 7024 iron powders on the outer chine weld, where we can we will mig but i've also got a load of 4mm rods which will be used in places. The tricky bit will be reducing heat deflection, but we have a plan for that.......
  22. Hello All, A bit late in the day, given your post dates, but I'm looking for information on the A460 24 regulator, particularly circuit schematics if there are any. Pictures of the components would be great too. I can offer what I have on the CAV AC203 60/A460 arrangement used on BR DMUs Class 108. I want to determine if by fault or design, residual rotor magnetism, remanance, can be destroyed. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
  23. As a matter of interest what type of welder are you going to. Use for the planks ? ark / or mig you are making a wonderful job of this build. You should be proud of your self Graham
  24. Thank you @davidwheeler you've wetted my appetite for our summer adventuadventures. I will report back once we've been.
  25. Even if the filter elements are fit for purpose there's always a possibility that some water gets past the element without actually being filtered. Reminds me of that story I heard on here years ago about the guy who couldn't understand why he filled his integral water tank much less than his neighbours and other boaters he saw and he assumed they just used more than him. When the boat finally came out the water they found a small hole below the waterline at the bow! I'm not sure if he'd been drinking it. 🤮
  26. I often see these houses and think they would be nice for deaf people but then I wonder if their augmented other senses would pick it up anyway. To people with a full suite of senses the noise is the first one and then perhaps the smell but maybe a deaf person would be able to 'feel' the traffic and become disturbed by it even if they could not hear it. When the deaf dumb and blind kid is playing a mean pinball beside the M6 does he know the road is there ?
  27. My woodwarm stove glass got crazed like that at around 7 years old. Ordered a new piece of Schott Robax glass and installed it and kept old as a spare. Stove 11 years old. Etched presume burning various smokeless coal over the years. James
