  1. Hi Graham. Sorry for delay in getting back to you. I replaced my generator after 19yrs of service, mainly due to same problem as you have experienced. Finding parts! The fuel shut off solenoid was the last straw, as the genny needed to be removed from the boat to get to it properly & I was quoted £1,000 to remove & re-install from a local boat yard. I decided that if I was going to spend that sort of cash, I may just as well replace the unit with a new one & take advantage of the warranty that would come with it. I now have a new unit, a Pageuro 5000 (5 Kva & 4.5 Kw) which is an Italian unit, still powered by the same Farymann diesel engine. The old unit, (badged as a Lister Petter but has a Farymann engine & a Zeuise alternator) has now been fully overhauled by myself, at much expense, new lift pump, injector pump, injector, fuel filter & pipework & of course a new fuel shut off solenoid. I also had the head & cylinder barrel off & was surprised to see that the cylinder walls, still have the "cross hatching" machining marks evident. This after 19yrs hard labour !!! This unit will be available on E-bay, when I get around to it, @ a starting price of £1,500 due to the amount I've spent on it & the fact that the new one stands me in £6,500. They really are lovely little units which I couldn't be without.
  2. I'm guessing its a single cylinder Farymann diesel engine, coupled to Zeize 240v alternator, much the same as the one I have just replaced on my own boat, after 19yrs service. Parts are available from:- Diesel Power www.dieselpower.co E-mail. info@dieselpower.co.uk Tel. 02086480041. Alternatively, I replaced the starter motor on my old Genny with one taken from an Audi Quattro taken from a local breakers yard. You will need to drill the threads out on the aluminium body of the starter, for the bolts to pass through & screw into the engine block. Hope this helps............. It worked for me.

  6. Well I'll give it a go, I've got nothing to loose. And if all else fails, I'll have the petrol out of it for my saw.
  7. Well I was thinking of using one from a moped or even from an old lawn mower, but the people in the know I have spoken to seem to think its a complete, self contained ignition module. Hardly seems worth spending money on it, unless I'm fairly sure it'll work.
  8. Thanks Tony. The top one seems favorite. I'll give it a go Monday morning. Bob. Ahh! I've just seen your next post. That would explain the dead phone line.
  9. [quote Ditchdabbler p.s. Are you the boat Victoria that towed Indus TOO through Blisworth tunnel on the 2004 Jam 'Ole for Dave Prior? No. I know the boat you mean though. A lovely old girl. No mine's just a namesake, a 1992 trad from Midland Canal Center. Thanks for the phone No. Unfortunately the same No. is on a sticker on this machine. I've tried it & its unobtainable.
  10. Does anybody know where I can get spare parts for a little wolf 950 genny? Its not super urgent or anything, as its only a unit I found dumped on the tow path last week, but if I can get it going again, it'll do somebody a turn. I've had it apart & looked it over & found that it needs a new coil, but I cant seem to be able to source one. That's obviously why it was dumped in the first place. Apart from that its as new. If I cant find the part, I'll take it to the tip. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  13. My bathroom & kitchen (ahem) galley have been tiled since new build. She's 18 yrs old now & still as new. There's also tiling around the stove, now I come to think about it. Don't let it worry you. They're easy clean too.

  15. Drilling through the masking tape should stop the drill from slipping, when you first start drilling. Using a center punch on a soft material such as an Aluminum tube. could damage it. As for keeping the drill straight, all I can suggest is eying it up against an engineers square placed against the pole............Lets face it, a spirit level aint gonna work!
