We (2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 14) are planning to do the Stourport Ring (clockwise) from Worcester over a week, in a couple of weeks time. We have hired a canal boat twice before on the Grand Union, but this will be the first time in this area. We have a rough plan and would appreciate your views - especially about whether or not we've picked safe overnight moorings, and whether you think our timings are reasonable.
Friday - pickup at Worcester. 3-4 hours up the Severn to Stourport (Upper Basin).
Saturday - Stourport via Kidderminister, Cookley to Swindon (7-8 hours)
Sunday - Swindon to Tettenhall (6 hours)
Monday - Tettenhall via Wolverhampton 21 locks and Coseley tunnel to Tipton (7 hours)
Tuesday - Tipton, via the Old Mainline to Hopwood (7 hours)
Wednesday - Hopwood through Tardebigge mooring somewhere near the Queens Head (8 hours)
Thursday - Queens Head for 7 or so hours to somewhere near Worcester (ideas welcome)
Friday - back to the boatyard (max 1 hour)
We would appreciate your thoughts and alternative ideas.
Have read somewhere that the area between Compton and Wolverhampton is not a good place to moor, so a bit worried about Sunday's stay at Tettenhall.
Many thanks
