Hi,
Perhaps I think too much about this stuff...
Until now, the best way to charge the batteries has been to cruise. A change of the way we do things has meant that we spend more time tied up, and with that goes the opportunity to plug in. I have used a 20A 13.8V power pack with great effect, but it belongs on the land and doesn't charge the batteries. I've just purchased a proper charger to permanently fit, but which side of the battery isolator do I wire it to?
If I wire it to the battery side, then I comply with the BSS requirement for being able to swiftly isolate the cabin electrics - but I can't then isolate the charger from the batteries in case of trouble. And the charger's inside the firewall...
If I wire it to the cabin side, then switching off the isolator whilst the charger is powered will leave the cabin electrics powered up and worse, will potentially subject the cabin devices to overvoltage.
Or do I need a third isolator? (please, no...)
The answer appears to be in ISO 10133 - a cool £80-£120 to buy on line. Can anyone help me with advice, or information as to what it says about the isolation requirements?
Any help gratefully received.
Ta
John
