  1. I'd say it's a prototype for a windlass. I made something like this out of wood and MDF and then took it to a metal worker who made it in steel. I did the same when contriving a special mounting for my Travel power. Made it in wood and MDF with a glue gun and once the dimensions were correct.....took it to a metal worker and asked him to make it in steel.
  2. I won't cast nasturtiums on them. I'm sure they are fine. I'd rather crawl over broken gkass than buy from. Whilton. Enough said.
  3. I went to view a boat at Devizes..The couple had owned it for 2 years but work meant they had to sell it. They bought it having just been overplated and it came with a glowing surveyors report highlighting how good the overplate was. In their second year.....a blacking trip highlighted that the stern was like a Colander . They paid £12k for more overplate...got a glowing survey....and tried to sell it to me. I walked away. I'd never buy an overplated boat.
  4. Steve Heywood is a licensed BSS surveyor. He did mine when I sold. Very thorough bloke and not at all unhelpful as you imply !!!!

  6. My Beta 43 was 7,000 hours when I bought it and 14,000 hours when I sold it. No smoke....start first turn in winter without heaters. Oil change every 150 hours with Wilco Classic oil....I think it was mineral 10/50
  7. Having been involved with BBC programmes purchased from production companies, very few pay anything to participants. Not sure why people have this vision that being on tv brings money.? That's why there are so many weird dross programmes....especially on satellite channels. I've featured on some and filled up expensive tv time....and had to fight to even get a train ticket to the location. 😃 It's just for the glory and five minutes of fame ...maybe promotion for your business 😃 😀 R.Evans.
  8. The situation is......that if the person with the caravan is using a fake address for the 3 months that the caravan site is closed......the caravan will become classed as their main residence and council tax will be charged on it. A bit like canal boaters who live on their boats in marinas....using it as a postal address.
  9. No idea.... I'm the messenger 😃
  10. I was groundsman at a caravan park on the south coast for 2 years. The park was one of a chain. People that came in to buy were presented with all the information and rules but most never bothered to read it. If it's a holiday park it normally closes for around 3 months. That's because you don't pay council tax.....whereas all year round you do. If people try and get around this the site owner is in trouble. The other condition from the council.....is that the caravan is not your only residence. In many instances this is not the case. People shut up the caravan and go abroad for 3 months....using a friend or a relative as their "pretend home" In our area, councils have started sending inspectors to these addresses demanding to see the persons room....clothes etc....and charging back council tax. We only allowed our own gas as many people have little experience of handling gas correctly and that invalidated the site insurance. They also have a tendency to run 20 plug extensions onto a 13amp supply....connecting strings of heaters and wondering where the smoke comes from. I've been called out late at night and seen several fires.!! As for banning vans after 15 years, I've been responsible for removing the plywood side covers on many. The vans are built on very thin U chassis and after 15 years....theyre nothing but dust. The interiors still look lovely but they're ready to collapse. The older vans are made of the same type of cladding as Grenfell. Some sort of insulation clad in aluminium. I've seen several fires.....believe me....they go up as if covered in petrol and usually destroy or damage any other vans near. Snatching pairs of 42kg gas bottles away from those flames.....is not for the faint hearted.!! These are only my observations from my experience. Don't shoot the messenger.

  12. Often what happens is that the water level.in thr coolant chamber only goes half way up the tube that carries the oil. It rusts through along the top line of the coolant Common problem. Best to remove it....cap it off...and have an external cooler as suggested.
  13. I put several manually operated bleed valves in my system....notably at the furthest point and one spot where the pipework had a more acute turn. I found this a great help as the heating system pumps aren't that strong to overcome air locks..
  14. When CRT build a nice new fence and leave it.....is it OK to saw it up and put it on your fire?. I just ask because I've seen a few stumps of new fences left. 😃 😀 😄
  15. Well....a neighbour told me she saw someone steal my car. The good news was.........she noted the registration number!!
