ihave fished canals for 30 yrs and been involved in narrowboats for as long ,granted ive never owned one [yet]. whenever i fish the canals i do so at night and have done for a decade mostly because of the completely inconsiderate behavior of about a third of boaters some of whom will open
up the throttle at the sight of an angler and do everything they can to "spoil their day".so night fishing it is.unless my children want to come,in which case i have to fish during the day, well i hope the morons who decide that it is more fun to trash our too infrequent days out than to have some consideration for oh forty seconds of their lives get a nice warm feeling of superiority. boaters may pay a lot more money to boat than anglers do to fish but at the end of the day i see this as yet more evidence of the well heeled thinking that money gives them the right to more of everything and blow everyone else.[always the shiny ones that give us agro].
further, fish do congrgate next to boats due to them being cold blooded they like the warmth from engine cooling tanks, wood burners etc.so starting your prop will just make the canal into fish soup,so unlucky you're stuck with the fishermen. and isnt running your prop whilst moored against bw bye laws .rant over.
I have lived my life by the following premise "never let a muppet wreck your day ".
and remember it could be a boater sat there with a rod.
