  1. signals carry a fungal disease to which native crays are not imune.be careful about identification hefty fines for taking or interfering [oer] with natives.not using fish baits and a sensible trap[or dropnet] should avoid otters. i believe chicken carcasses are good bait. as for preparation take middle fin of tail bend it up and then down till it clicks then pull firmly and should come away with alimentary canal[no you cant put your boat on it] the bit you REALLY dont want to eat.insert green stick and cook on open fire till red.well tasty.there is a population explosion anyway due to no predation exept otter i presume cos they eat crab, sea otters do anyway, and swan mussels. They do predate on each other but only during the moult when they turn v.soft.not sure about licenses but it would be a brave/stupid descision to prosecute u 4 doing something that the EA should be addressing themselves .they are a non native invasive species so its on to the plate with ya with a side order of grey squirrel and mink surprise for pudpud.incidentally the caldon nav is a stronghold 4 the native species or was about 10 year ago.hope this helps eat your fill m8.
  2. why dont anglers and boaters try to get along with each other,we are all on the river, lets enjoy it. couldnt agree more m8.we all love the waterways so whats the prob i to show consideration to boaters/anglers [depending which side of the fence im on for any given ocasion] so i dont see why others cant.
  3. nice1 paul quality m8. you would have received thanks and acknowledgement from me for your considerate behavior if only 'they'were all like u. . i did try to avoid sweeping generalisations as i have a freind on a liveaboard who is very far from wealthy.
  4. ihave fished canals for 30 yrs and been involved in narrowboats for as long ,granted ive never owned one [yet]. whenever i fish the canals i do so at night and have done for a decade mostly because of the completely inconsiderate behavior of about a third of boaters some of whom will open up the throttle at the sight of an angler and do everything they can to "spoil their day".so night fishing it is.unless my children want to come,in which case i have to fish during the day, well i hope the morons who decide that it is more fun to trash our too infrequent days out than to have some consideration for oh forty seconds of their lives get a nice warm feeling of superiority. boaters may pay a lot more money to boat than anglers do to fish but at the end of the day i see this as yet more evidence of the well heeled thinking that money gives them the right to more of everything and blow everyone else.[always the shiny ones that give us agro]. further, fish do congrgate next to boats due to them being cold blooded they like the warmth from engine cooling tanks, wood burners etc.so starting your prop will just make the canal into fish soup,so unlucky you're stuck with the fishermen. and isnt running your prop whilst moored against bw bye laws .rant over. I have lived my life by the following premise "never let a muppet wreck your day ". and remember it could be a boater sat there with a rod.
  5. had a nose about ont web found photo of kingfisher kd36 and i pretty sure its not one of those. darn its pretty bloody big for a 1.5l i think, but i am more used to car/van engines.i shall post a photo of it when i have one. runs v nice at the moment small amount of white smoke when cold.just would be nice to know what it is should a problem arise or for maintainance puposes, valve clearances lubes etc . gear box manual a big help and backed up a few fledgling theories.thanks again.will keep u upto date.
  6. nice1 tugstyle thanks vmuch 4 your time m8. the gearbox manual is a great start. i shall look into the engine being a kingfisher we have no clue what it is at the minute, other than the engine num plate that says shanghai tractor iternational combustion engine model 3.
  7. Hello bottle was made there i think by hangzhou advance gear box group its name is usually unrepeatable so we gave it a number 'ma125a' it is rated for 82 hp and for 1500 - 3000 revs ,2:1 ratio.
  8. a friend of mine has a50 ft narrow boat with a shanghai tractor diesel engine with a hangzhou gearbox the box makes a load knocking noise in gear both forward and reverse but occaisionally it runs okay. the engine is a 1.5 3 cyl allegedly copied from a british engine any clues on either would be greatly appreciated.the gearbox is a hangzhou ma12
