  1. I doubt you could get that thumbscrew tight enough (by hand) to seal on a copper washer. I suppose you might find a dowty washer the right size, but that still uses a rubber seal. I would just stick with the seal that comes with the filter. Unlikely a BSS examiner will fail it - as the OP points out, the other seals in the unit are rubber.
  2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  3. I suppose we can conclude that if you get your well deck drains wrong, you are scuppered!
  4. I suspect well off MAGA people with enormous RVs would be only too likely to fit batteries from a premium-priced American brand, no matter how they fuel their BBQs.
  5. I suspect the noise around the class action and now the lawsuit against Will Prowse is already persuading many potential customers that with many other suppliers out there, perhaps Battleborn is one to avoid.
  6. In an ideal world, the user's external connections to the battery terminal would be sound, and low resistance. However the battery design is poor in that there is a heat sensitive component on the inside end of the terminal, which is hidden from the user inside the sealed case. One could argue that the battery which is so sensitive to the quality of the external connection is not fit for purpose, especially if the need for a good external connection is not emphasised in the user instructions.
  7. Are you putting in a bid to get them back?
  8. Surely it is still compliant if the water doesn't rise beyond the rim of the sink. Having sea (or canal) water entering the sink bowl may not be ideal, but if it doesn't overflow it can't sink the boat.
  9. I thought the requirement was 250mm/10" for unprotected openings, and 150mm/6" for openings normally closed with a sealed lid, like weedhatches. That said, I know of boats with raw water cooling with mudboxes (with sealed lids), which are below the water line. I suppose the difference is that those have a seacock between the mudbox and the canal outside.
  10. I always wonder about the value of plug-in RCDs, as recommended for electric mowers and other garden tools, in this situation.
  11. Ice and stoppages can be an issue. River flow isn't. About the only place I can think of where strong flows might be a problem is the weir below Coppermill Lock, which comes in square to the navigation, and can push the unwary across towards the towpath, but its not a big deal.
  12. Rather than rely on hearsay on hear, why not check the BSS itself? (And from memory the BSS doesn't specifically mention solar, so the normal wiring requirements apply).
  13. After my father died and I was cashing in his various investments, one insisted on paying me by cheque. I followed the bank's instructions to pay in using the app, got to the end of the process only to find that there was a £500 limit. Ended up paying it in via the Post Office instead.
  14. Why go to the cost of that, when AI can create a video in minutes? Does anyone recall a stoppage notice for the filming?
  15. Or even hammer and chisel, followed by rust converter.
