  1. Hello All, an update of progress with the Turner 2V95 installation. The engine has been partially rebuilt with new liners, piston rings, bearings, recon fuel pumps, and a starter ring fitted to flywheel. The engine is fixed into the narrow boat hull and is in the process of being plumbed in. The engine has not yet run. Hopefully I can attach a couple of recent photo's ( just need a reminder of how to do it ? - thanks ) regards Steve
  2. Hello Chris, we are hoping to be able to bolt on a suitable ring but this depends on the actual design of the ring. The flywheel will have to be removed what ever we do as we need the ring on the cylinder side of the flywheel. Machining the flywheel can be done but we are trying to keep the costs as low as possible. Just spoken to the Tony Redshaw vintage diesels people and they can supply a 20" dia bolt on starter ring ! regards Steve
  3. Thanks for the info Mike, very interesting that your boat was linked to the Turner company. I take your point about the power losses via the hydraulic system. To help with our decisions what speed are you able to achieve with the 1:1 direct drive ? and also what propellor are you running. We were planning to have a 2:1 reduction via the pump / motor. I was involved with a similar hydraulic set up in an Associated Canal Carriers motor "Prince" but this was powered by a JP3 also with a 2:1 reduction. The attraction of the hydraulic drive is the removal of the need for a propshaft giving flexiblity in how high the engine is mounted for ease of maintenance etc. As mentioned before we have a clear sheet on this project and will take note of any advice. The links work ok. Thanks again, Steve
  4. Hello Mick, thanks for your offer of searching for literature. I would be grateful for any photos / details you may have of your engine room and cooling arrangements. Based on your engines succesful use over such a long period you must have an ideal set up !. We are able to design the engine room to suit the 2V95 as our hull is what remains of a 1972 Canal Transport Services hull and selfbuild wooden cabin which was bunt out by vandals 3 years ago. We have a blank canvas !. We are going for a hydraulic drive as we are using an industrial engine which would be difficult to mate to a conventional gearbox. I have seen a 2V95 in a boat moored at Goldstone Wharf on the Shroppie, maybe 6 years ago. I also have a 1V95 which was removed from a boat in 1982 by Geoff Greatwood of Swan Line Cruisers at Fradley Junction, the elderly owner was struggling to hand start it ! There are a couple of links to photo's in another reply. Regards Steve
  5. A couple of photos uploaded in another reply. All the best Steve
  6. Thanks for the help with uploading - here goes with the pictures ! http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr156/S...eratSaredon.jpg http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr156/S...eratSaredon.jpg
  7. Thanks for the warm welcome and the information, I will try the two suggestions received so far. I will attach (need a bit of help here!) a couple pics of the engine when obtained in 2001. It is an industrial of 15-16HP of approx 1947. We will be removing the radiator / fan set up and using a skin tank cooling system. Regards Steve
  8. Hi, I am hoping your members may be able to direct me to a source for starter rings. We are installing a Turner of Wolverhampton 2V95 vee twin diesel in a 32ft narrow boat and need to change from hand cranking to electric start. The flywheel is 20" in diameter so the o/d of the ring needs to be approx 21 to 21.5". We have tried Glyn Beach the Turner spares man but he does not have anything suitable. Any advice or assistance will be gratefully received. Thanks
