  1. I was told last week the BA are charging £5 a day ticket to fish along the Shropshire Union canal now! GE

  4. No, just that gimp being a tw@t.
  5. Answer me this then Dave, if a boat and a canoe were approaching each other from opposite direction on a canal approaching a bottle neck of some sorts (say a bridge - where only one boat can pass at any time)... Now should the boat stop to allow the canoe to pass first? GE
  6. Depends on the bank of the canal, a canoe could quite happily scoot underneath your pole if it was a high bank....but I remember a friend who was fishing in a match saying some 5+ went through the match stretch and then got to the end angler and turned around in his swim....he wasn't a happy bunny to say the least. And it's ignorance like this that causes problems in the first place. GE
  7. The "groups of anglers" are known as "Sections" in a match. Usually somebody on an end peg tends to do alot better. For example 6 sections of 8 = 48 anglers in total. Each angler is in a section, they are competing against the other anglers in their section to win their section money prize and usually the 3 heaviest catches from the match get 1st, 2nd and 3rd cash prizes....but an angler who is in the ranks of 1st, 2nd or 3rd cannot win their section so the section money then goes to the person who was second....but say if 1st and 2nd in the section was in the overall 1st and 2nd position the section money then goes to the person in 3rd place and so on. But in team events each team may have 6 anglers in, again the same cash prise rules above apply but depending on their section ranking leads to points which are all added up which forms a fishing league. Sometimes the points can be different....1st place gets you 1 point through, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd=3points etc.....or sometimes the other way around so 1st gets you 10 points, 2nd=9points, 3rd=8points untill you get to 1....and everybody else who weights in gets 1 point, anybody who doesnt catch gets 0 points. I'm still learning the ropes with all this as you can imagine it's quite complicated! GE
  8. Probably because we're not catching many fish!
  9. Well said that man.
  10. If I was into sea fishing I would, but I'm not.
  11. 99% of the time the maximum length will be 16m but they can go up to 20m long. But theres no point fishing with a pole at 18m when the canal is 12m wide. Aren't cyclist supposed to stop and wait for anglers while on the tow path, rather than the other way around? GE
  12. http://news.stv.tv/scotland/east-central/1...ice-into-canal/ Watch the video.... GE
  13. I've had fish to 5lb+ on the pole on the canal and use the same pole for fish between 1oz and 20lb+ (using different elastic I may add). No problems, sorry about my assy reply first of all.....but anyway back to the pram, I still would of asked them to move the equipment, if they didn't move it, I would quite happily chuck it in the canal due to their own stupidity and ignorance......you've got to remember that some people are deaf and it's isn't as obvious as you'd think lol. GE
  14. Each and every angler is different some lift the pole at the last minute, others with plenty of time - it all depends, but most of the time if its a match the pole wont lift untill the last second! The same goes to the towpath....I like to keep it clear at all times, I feel that it's wrong to block the tow path for whatever "traffic" (pedestrians, cyclists, dogs, magic walking sausages etc) there happens to be coming. GE
  15. a fishing rod then
