  1. hi All, i reckon i've sprung a slight leak, pinhole!? 25ltrs in a couple of day continually filling the swim! i'm in the stockton area nr napton jct (G.U) so i've plenty of swindling marinas and as they swindle i'm looking for a cheaper option on a DIY drydock. rumour has it theres one nr daventry/braunston at £100 pd. looking at 3 days out, my budget is around 350 any and all ideas (even for plugging the hole, once i've located it) more than welcome. appreciation in advance
  2. If there were enough photons i'd find those pesky electrons (darn multimeter battery depleted scotty)
  3. cheers Gibbo. tried the multimeter to detect 1.5+v. getting 0.42 on earth lead to engine, stater and engine casing!
  4. I have a split relay installed 70amp the alt is a lucas A127! no plastic cover on the back i'll try all the suggestions and with the new info if any other ideas? thanx
  5. Hi all, currently cruising and seem to have a charging problem. engine SR3 1 starter bttry 2 leisure battry Problem: alt is charging at 14+V reading V at leisure and getting 12.20 ish now when i take a reading from the charging lead to Neg on batteries ,as above, 12.20 ish when i take a reading from the alt cable at battery and then put the black probe on to the metal chassi where the alt is situated 14+V any clues thanx in advance
  6. Hi all, moored up at night to find in the morning i'd pegged next to a black ants nest, sufice to say a large amount are now stowaways! what are your ideas on the best method of humanely eradicating the buggers!
  7. hey Guys, thanx for all the imput. i fixed the problem and another took its place! somehow the solenoid burnt out (smell of burning bakerlite and a spark at the contact end!) took of the solenoid and yes frazzzzzled. so i need another one, stamped on the body is '0417 lucas 19s, 76803A12v' looked on the lucas website and find no corresponding part. any ideas or is there a replacement? The solenoid had two stud contacts and a spade connector cheers in advance outward 'to swear is to be realllly annoyed!!'

  9. Hi all, just charged up my engine battery and fitted the lecky leads, alls cool till..... i turn the key and.........the engine just about turns over then nowt, battery is still 12+v (multimetter check)... tried again and just a click sounds, all leads seem present and correct, tapped the solenoid with biggish hammer and tried again....nowt, just the click. battery is now 11v.......as i have a Lister sr3 i switched the compression levers over and tried that way ( it worked before)......not enough juice to even help me there. any advise?
  10. back to the future! just said "bugger it all "and bought one of the net A127 for £35 recon cheers for the advice
  11. Hi all, Ho Hum another alt problem had a problem before concerning my alternator not charging, below 12v charge, after all the helpfull replies i went out and bought an A127 (recond £35 ebay, yipeee!) to make things a wee bit easier. All is good..............i'm getting above 12v most times!! but i should be getting in excess of 13v right (under engine load)?! Now i'm on a 70amp split charge relay and the warning light is not conected to my ignition, will this effect my alt output? as i'm getting 12v+ makes me think something else is awry! running a lister sr3. thanks in advance
  12. Cheers for the responses. I have a SR3, 2 x leisure at 110amp and the starter at 95amp (i think), also i'm cont., cruising on a split charge relay so, no shoreline as to how much amps the alternator produces...? how do i find out with a multimeter? when i use the multimeter from the alt to earth i get a fluctuating reading of 11.80v when under load! my volt level on leisure is around 11.70v and no increase after running engine (possible relay fault!) although its kinda been like that since a week or two. using 4x interior lights, gulper and water pump so not much drain! cheers outwardbound
  13. Hi all, a quicky. I reckon my lucas alternator (no idea amp rating) is to small for what i need ie 2 leisure batteries and a starter (also using a 70 amp split relay charge system) Now, can i go to the scrappy and just pull out a bigger alternator (ensuring that the bracket lugs are the same) and fit it? cheers in advance
  14. hi all, have a problem i'd like to share. a 'friend' stripped out my engine electrics only leaving a direct feed from battery banks to 12v lights. the strip out included ignition switch etc I've put in a split charge relay(70v) for both banks and as i have no trigger from the ignition how does the alternator energise the relay. also how do i wire up the ignition to the system (at the mo i'm hand cranking the lister), the warning light has as yet to come on wich tells me no power!
  15. cheers all for the help she has a thompson/ thomas (from walsall) back (square)! and a tender front (has the lines of a ship), a cut and weld job at some point!
