  1. Glad the boat has been found. It's just a shame that various parts of this thread became a "have a go at the Police" subject. Certainly most narrowboat owners I've spoken to and communicated with seem less judgemental than these parts of this thread suggest. sadly it seems that I was wrong. Still no doubt narrowboat owners reflect life itself. Parts of this thread certainly seem to support that.....pity.
  2. A Jack Russell used to keep wicket for England. He was quite good too. 54 tests, 1897 runs at an average of 27.1, top score 128 not out and 153 catches. He also is a top sports painter now. Top cricketing dog.
  3. Greybeard, I am in the throws of buying an Evans & Sons 40' NB that was built in 1993. I had it surveyed in March and generally the surveyor was very impressed with it. Certainly no deal breakers identified. Yes there are one or two minor issues but I am sorting these out with the seller. The surveyor told me that he had surveyed a number of Evans & Sons boats lately and has been impressed with the build of all of them. He said it was just coincidence that he had done a lot of them lately. He told me that the hull of my prospective boat is in very good condition. I believe that Mike Heyward (recently deceased i think) who was a hull builder with an excellent reputation used to be with Evans and Sons and he may have been responsible for building yours, depending on year of course. If it helps I will PM you with the details of the surveyor if it helps. Hope this helps. My above post should have been addressed to Stourbridgeguy. Apologies.
  4. I live quite close to the Ouse. Please do not do it!!
  5. Brummage - Let us know how it goes pls mate. We are soon to get our NB and will be bringing from the GU to the Middle Levels via the Nene. Although we have no plans to tackle the Ouse this summer it could be an option and it will certainly mean going that way for us. Don't know if you have seen the plans for the new proposed waterways in the area but a link to avoid that area is a definite possibility.
  6. I've been a cop for 29 years. I can get clean using soap and water!
  7. Thanks for all the information. Very useful. Cops
  8. Thanks for your reply Dave. It's a private sale though. Will wait for some more replies to see and if necc will ring BW. Regards, Cops
  9. The narrowboat that we hope to collect on purchase at the end of May 2008 has a Gold Licence expiring Feb 09. What do I have to do regarding telling BW about the purchase of the boat? Does the licence have to be transferred from the previous owner to myself? Is there any paperwork to do? Can find information on Waterscape about licences but nothing about transfer on sale, but perhaps I am looking in the wrong place. Can someone advise please?
  10. Hi everyone. Me and my family are totally new to boating but we have always fancied a narrowboat. We have now found our narrowboat, agreed the purchase, survey done, no deal breakers. Several minor things to be done but we have an agreement drawn up with the seller (very helpful) to have these few things sorted. The boat is 40ft in length and very traditional, just as we want. We hope to collect the boat at the end of May. Present owner lives aboard and is presently involved in build of his replacement. We have found a beautiful mooring in Ramsey, Cambs (Billfen) and we will bring the boat along the Nene into the middle levels for at least the first year to eighteen months. After this we plan to moor on the canal system (eventually). I will have loads of questions to ask and judging by the number of posts on these threads and by the general attitude I find amongst boaters I am sure most of my questions will be answered. A lot will seem daft questions to those more experienced but they won't be to me so bear with me please. I won't post the name and any more details of the boat at the moment as I don't want to tempt fate. We spent ages looking for the right boat and now that we have found it I want to wait until all the i's have been dotted and the t's crossed.
