  1. not generally recommended - it usually contains salt as a thickening agent which can cause corrosion, if you must, wash the joint well afterwards springy
  2. Chris Coburn, see this thread from 2010 springy
  3. Epping stoves now available - see this thread, last post for contact details springy
  4. A Monkeys Fist, Turks Head and a cabin mat are all basically the same construction, except that the mat is flat, the Turks Head is a ring and the Monkeys Fist is a ball, AIUI the Turks Head is often a decorative band made around a standard button fender. A heaving line Monkeys Fist may well have a stone or other heavy item in its centre to give it more weight. I would suggest that the fender in the image is a Monkeys Fist, probably made around some sort of core to give it bulk, likewise the door stop. Usually made quite loose and then once you have the required number of turns just work it tight. springy
  5. That looks a lot more likely springy
  6. Might work well with a "Bottle Stove" as found in cabined BCN dayboats or Fore cabins as illustrated in this thread https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/120990-tunnel-bands/page/3/#comment-3036983 springy
  7. Probably frost damage, most likely the body of the valve is slightly distorted - I had similar a few years ago and paloma bob was able to supply a replacement body - fairly straightforward to replace without disturbing the gas side, be careful removing the four screws - be sure to use a well fitting screwdriver or you will chew the screwheads. springy
  8. Is there a matching hole on the other side of the coupling - if so there should also be a hole in the shaft to allow a shear pin or bolt to pass all the way through, you may have to rotate the shaft in the coupling or move in or out to locate and get the holes to line up. springy
  9. express and star 31/12/24 - this is for the netflix film not the "two new series" recently announced https://www.expressandstar.com/entertainment/showbiz/2024/12/31/great-wyrley-spells-trouble-for-peaky-blinders-star-cillian-murphy/ springy
  10. They were filming at bumble hole at he end of last year and into January springy
  11. Surely all you need below the skeg is just a little more than the uxter plate to deck measurement, 4' might be tight but not impossible if the bottom is soft. I did it on my mooring (quite) a few years ago and there's definitely not 7' there. springy
  12. If you can remove the rudder whilst still in the water, in addition to a rope through the eye in the top of the rudder blade, fit an eye bolt to the top of the rudder stock and attach a second rope to it to help lower the whole assembly, leave this rope in place through the rudder tube - it will help massively when you come to replace the rudder. springy
  13. I wonder if the post merger marine engines continued to be marketed as "Bolinders" to capitalise on their established reputation for marine engines, including the less common W series engines (significantly different to the BM as used in canal boats - pump stroke governor, more enclosed appearance and possibly derived from a Munktell's design), whereas the tractors (both hotbulbs and 105x full diesels) carried the Bolinder-Munktell label. springy
  14. Just seen this on BBC Midlands Today - the Birmingham BULLSINTHECITY includes one decorated with Roses and Dudley Castle https://bullsinthecity.co.uk/sculptures/bill-bull-barge/ springy

  15. Some years ago I helped bring Gifford up Wolverhampton 21 horse drawn, I was somewhat surprised how fast it came out of the chambers compared with a motor. AIUI all of the FMC steamers worked "fly", and somewhere on the web I have seen letters from various canal owning companies to FMC complaining about the behaviour and speed of the steamers (though I can't find it at the moment). springy
