  1. I see planning proposals are afoot for a large scale 300 acre / 1400 houses development at a 'grey land site' at Marshcroft farm. The land adjoins the canal and runs from Tring station bridge to Marshcroft bridge. The canal at this point runs in a deep cutting and the land has 'non towpath' frontage, but it will be interesting to see if the development could extend to include land up to the edge of the canal.... It's going to be an interesting decision as there are strong demands to provide substantial numbers of new homes in the area.
  2. Wow, That might cover part of the cost of piling Wilstone Reservoir.........
  3. Hi, When I had a BMC1.5 years ago, it used to leak oil from the rear oil deal if filled to the MAX mark on the dipstick, when it reached the mid point twix max and min it stopped, It had reached it's 'happy' point..........seemed a lot easier to fill it to this level than remove the flywheel.

  6. Interesting, I started working with 'houses' in 1972 in that that area, before it was 'gentrified' and you describe it perfectly, lots of similar houses all good value and the convenient placed 'Fox', suddenly the area was discovered......Sad...I moored one time by the bricks running up to the bridge in the background to the picture.. the mud was so bad here and the smell and bubbles as one pulled the 'Quanting' pole was out the worst I have ever known.......happy days. My favourite 'quiet' pub - the Rising Sun, Little Hampden, Buckinghamshire, sadly, long gone, you bought beer from the jug, bought up from the cellar, it was a couple of miles up a 'no through road', and the landlord had the odd 'Lock in'....
  7. Good picture, impressed by the huge front fender on the tug -well before rubber tyres were used.
  8. Interesting, it was made just down the North Orbital at Denham.....
  9. Been wading through this....if the engine has heater plugs, this weather they need a good battery, and 30 to 60 secs on the heater plugs, other wise forget it - that was how my 1.5 started, the Gardner was different, push the button under the rack and then the starter.......
  10. HI, What style of boat is it - trad, semi trad ? could be a rainwater leak as we have had lots of wet weather........perhaps a photo of the boat including roof drain points.
  11. Interesting....depends on how much you are going to use them,,,,,,,,an on/off switch went on on a De Walt sander when it was just out of guarantee......put me off them....I have had good usage out of all Ferrex tools, Gardening and DIY.....including battery life, Bosch 12v Drills are good, Parkside? tools work well, but again it depends how much you will use the tool. But that On/off switch always cheese me off DeWAlt.
  12. Thanks, I sold the boat and Gardner last year........ M
  13. Head torches, excellent, I have just bought an Aldi worklight, LED, about 2.5 hours battery life on high output, less on 2 other modes, 2 sorts excellent, Faced with the same problem on providing mains leccy to a remote shed I bought an Aferity? power station, 2.4Kw, really good supply for lights, power tools, recharged via mains or in my case solar panels, excellent solution, it's heavy though, several variations in power output and makers, prices variable. Highly recommended.
  14. Whilst on the subject of water cans, having sold the boat. I am disposing of some decorational 'goodies' here is my boat water can.......It's heavily galvanised, rust free, painted by S Dalling and needs stripping and repainting. It has some age (as they say), I bought from an antique shop in Woburn in 1989, and it's in good condition for it's age. It has some connection with the Rothchilds (Tring Gang) as it was the nesting site and birthplace of 4 Glis Glis, (Edible Dormice) an invasive bunch who are the scourge of the Northern Home Counties. Interested? let me know I will be offering it for sale soon.
  15. The best bet is to find the boat. lots of looking, lots of boats, I have bought 2 boats over the last 40 odd years, one from a Marina' years ago, good service, good advice, one from a boat broker, good service, but bear in mind they charge about 4% commission,. Sold 2 boats, one through an odd introductory source, straight fee £500. but a good deal for both vendor and purchaser. The second through a private advert...........sold within a week. People frown upon private deals, but I approve of vendor surveys, I don't think deposits are a good idea and try an provide as much info as possible.....I don't believe in internet sales of boats, always look for good 'paper trails' of receipts for work, ownership, licences, safety certificate inspections and walk away if you are not happy with any aspect of the deal. I also walk away if any part of the dealings are in a language other than English.
