  1. Reading the June edition of Towpath Talk, this lovely old boat is going free to the right person. It is moored on the river Soar adjacent to the Otter pub at Kegworth. Its owner is very old and has dementia. The National Historic Ships UK are handling the passing on of the boat to new owners on behalf of the current ones son. It has been a really nice boat, we pass it regularly but its condition is now poor. It was the pride and joy of its owner - he would sometimes take it out for a trip up the reach to Zouch and back. Anyone who takes it on will need very deep pockets. It has sunk twice in recent years. It would be a real shame to see it broken up.
  2. Many thanks for this. I was just interested to know what it it was.
  3. Boating along the Soar on Saturday we shared some locks with an un-named un marked butty. The owner said its name was Star but this was obviously wrong as Star was a motor boat. It had a modified stern with an anticavitation place and vertical rudder. There was no trace of the original back cabin. The steerer was very vague about it saying he had bought it cheap, had the bottom plated at Sileby Mill recently and was going to do it up. It had a 3 pot air cooled Lister in the stern. He said he had a mooring at Proctors at Barrow. I would be interested to know of its real name and history - see the photos. We also passed one of the old BW hire boats - I think it was Water Hyacinth moored in Loughborough
  4. Yes 18mm. Ialso have a made a wooden dipstick which is much easier to read than the metal one. Just make so that you can't drop it in the gearbox.
  5. Our new water tank was made by https://www.goodwinplastics.co.uk/incredibly-durable-plastic-water-tanks/ It does the job well. They do tanks for alluses
  6. The Trent around Trent Lock is good for mixing with other craft. There is a rowing club, a sailing one and Nottinghamshire Scouts have a water activities base as well as easy launching facilities for the public. So mayhem ensues at times. I sail so can usually avoid the dinghies but kayakers and the like especially beginners are not so easy to avoid. Likewise at Barrow on Soar where Barrow Boating have pedaloes and similar and no one knows how to steer them!!
  7. Sad to hear this. MP will be missed on this forum and also elsewhere. He was a well repected man in the field of conservation and National Lottery adjudication and monitoring.
  8. See my addition to the original reply. If the graveyard floods parts of Nottingham and many other cities and towns willbe many metres under water
  9. Redhill Marina on the Soar Trent junction. You can add another boat to their graveyard!! The storage area does not flood. They have a hoist for lifting boats out of the water. The graveyard can be seen from the train.
  10. I was given the sketch and painting yesterday. They are by Mary Austin. I know the location of the painting but not the sketch. Can anyone help? Knaresborough has been suggested but there is not a bridge near the viaduct. It is likely to be a real view as Mary did draw imaginary ones.
  11. Get well soon
  12. That is not good news especially at this time of year. You can't help feeling for CRT who are lurching from one catastrophe to the next!!
  13. Sheetstores on the Erewash?
  14. Chris and his wife Jan are still around based at Trent Lock where they live on a pair. Their web site is https://www.deuchars.co.uk/ Jan is a very good signwriter.
