IMHO it is as simple as the bottom is nearer the top on both the cuts and reservoirs. That’s to say siltation in both has reduced the capacity of both. The contents insurance was an add on I chose to take, I think it put about £50 into the total price I have quoted, m’Lady. The age limit varies with the vessel type I was told, so expect to hear from them at 35 years or not if you continue to be with them or maybe not. 🤷‍♂️

Just for everyone’s information Having been asked for a full survey at 30 years old ( the boat, not me ) by GJW I had a shop around. Haven Knox Johnson do not ask for a survey until 35 years and if at that time you have been continuously insured with them , then I am told, no need for a survey. Quote wasn’t cheap at £220, but with contents of £5k I am just happy that we can continue with Fully Comp on our lovely boat. Have a good weekend folks 🍻

Agreed 👍 The insurance companies favoured tolerance is very much on the safe side. To the OP, lots of good advice here and you seem to have come to the right conclusions yourself. My opinion, cut out and replace the affected area, that is what we did with our 30 year old boat. (+ new/more anodes and grit blast/2 pack epoxy if you can afford it)

Machine Mart sell Clarke brand stoves, maybe you could find the spares from them? It is possible to buy a sheet of Vermiculite fire brick and cut them yourself, if you had an idea of the sizes you needed.

Surely the lock at Phil Jones dockyard ,as an extant example , would give a most accurate picture. Plus the special cutaway must give detail of what the walls were like and how they were tied back to the bank/infill when it was modified?

I have say to the OP that all these minor concerns , are minor concerns. You should be more interested in the condition of the hull below the waterline before considering making an offer.
