  1. I funded my boat through a top up on my mortgage for a 'home extension'. I see my boat as an extension to my home No questions were asked. As long as there is positive equity in your house, they don't care...
  2. Building on Yoda's sound advice: Turn off water and gas etc. (I once had a cold water mains pipe fitting break in the loft while away, what a mess, had to have new ceilings). But most importantly, make sure your insurance company acknowledges in writing that you have informed them that you will be leaving the house empty for an extended period so that you have a record to prove that they were made aware. They may charge an extra premium due to the added risk
  3. Thank you John
  4. We also have the same layout as Vesuvius and are very happy with it. If changing boat in the future, we would want the same layout again. Having said that, I am sure that it's all a matter of personal taste and life style. One mans meat .....
  5. When we had our BSS examination recently, the inspector picked up on two things: 1) The gas grill/oven unit was not screwed firmly to the woodwork, it is built into the kitchen units and due to it’s weight was not going to go anywhere. He let it go and advised us to fit a couple of screws in the holes provided which we did. 2) The cabin bilge pump skin fitting was less than xx” ( I think he said 9” or 10” ) above the waterline. He advised that we extend the hose from the pump to the outlet fitting so that it could be looped with the highest part of the loop at least xx” above the water line. He explained that this was to stop water getting into the bilge from the outside via the pump should there be some kind of accident (trapped in a lock was his example). The inspector issued the certificate stating that the skin fitting height was really just an insurance company issue, not a BSS issue.
