  1. Seems people complain when they don't remove the sunken boats, and complain when they do.
  2. If they know they are getting moved because they are 'scruffy', why don't they sort themselves out and become a bit less scruffy.
  3. Bet you're fun at parties.
  4. I used to deliver fuel to people who lived on a boat on the mooring there, and they definitely didn't live/own the house. I seem to remember there being a second boat there, some kind of small inspection launch that caught fire once. Not sure if that was the home owners boat, but if not that's 2 boats there not belonging to the land/home owner, which does add some evidence to the possibility of them being able to sub let. If my mind is not playing tricks on me, the bank is set back from the bridge a bit in a sort of 'wharf' type fashion, so you probably could get 4 boats there if they were breasted up.
  5. I'd rather wash at my sink with a flannel and bar of soap than use an RCT communal shower block.
  6. If you're going to Aquaduct you're probably loaded, so why not call into somewhere like Middlewich Boats on the way and ask if you can hire their dry dock for the day. Have a look at it yourself, and you'll probably be able to decide yourself if you're happy to leave it another year or so.
  7. https://youtu.be/PAszByoXroY?si=VhDrK4l3c0kiAWCbhttps://youtu.be/PAszByoXroY?si=VhDrK4l3c0kiAWCb Not sure if I'll have managed to embed this and apologies if it's been seen before, but the BBC Archive video has just appeared on YouTube today. Ian Mac of this parish features. Any others? Seems I didn't manage to embed. Could anyone do it for me?
  8. Perhaps by saying the canal is closed to navigation and issuing a stoppage notice they are doing their bit to minimise their liability should something go wrong, but by not physically blocking the canal they are giving boaters the option to crack on if they want to.
  9. Can't comment on a Websto, but I have a Autoterm (used to be Planar) diesel heater that was fitted 2 winters ago and I'm very happy. Like you, I fitted it as a secondary heating source as I already have 2 x solid fuel stoves on the boat. There will be hundreds of thousands of Websstos fitted in boats, lorries and campervans all over the world that work absolutely fine. Nobody ever posts on the internet about their fully working Webssto, so of course when you do a search you'll only find negative stuff. You'd get the same result for Autoterm, Eberspacher etc... I'm not an expert on Diesel heaters, but I did loads of research when I was trying to decide what was right for me. My conclusion is that the system is only as good as the install and components used. The units themselves should all function to a certain standard, and if looked after, serviced and not abused should rarely go wrong. For example, I follow the Autoterm Facebook group. People often post that their heater has stopped working or is throwing up fault codes. The results almost always turn out to be incorrectly fitted fuel pick ups or fuel filters , or things like bends in the ducting being too tight or ducting hose being of the wrong diameter. Stuff like that, rather than a faulty heater unit needing replacing. In terms of ducting and bulkheads etc, the heaters themselves (or the exhausts) can be quite noisy. You wouldn't really want the heater fitted in the room you want to heat. Much better to mount it in an engine room or cupboard and then duct the heat to where you want it. You also need to mount it reasonably close to where your exhaust outlet will be as you don't want a long exhaust run. Someone will be along soon to quote BSS rules and regs and fill the thread with doom and gloom about cheap Chinese Diesel heaters, I'll leave that to them. Just make sure your exhaust is a proper marine exhaust and not one designed for a campervan, that where most of the problems (death) occurs.
  10. It's a bit too late for this year, but Phil Speight did a taster session at the HNBC Easter Gathering at Ellesmere Port this year. It looked popular and when I stuck my head into the room the work being done by those in the session looked fantastic, no doubt down to his expert tuition rather than previous experience. I'm sure the sessions would be repeated next year as they were so popular, so if you're not in a rush perhaps try and attend before attempting your own. He also used to do courses at Bollington Wharf now and again.

I suppose if the team that was going to be working on it has been delayed on another job, they can only be in one place at once.
  12. This is Albion moored at the end of the Wendover Arm about 10 years ago. Am I reading this thread right and that you can no longer get to this part? I seem to remember a bit of a basin/wharf at the end.
  13. Live and let live. Everyone has to be somewhere.
  14. Back in the 1930's I worked in Bulgaria and was able to pay with milk from my goats and the odd surplus chicken. Never had to touch my shillings at all until one of my goats rogered a local goat and ruined my economy as they started breeding their own then. Eventually I moved back to England and then there was a bloody war. Should have seen the cost of fuel for my Model T go up. I blame Trump and his mate Farage.
