  1. I’ve often thought a locking wheel nut type nut set into a brass cap would work and look ok rather than a chunky padlock trip hazard. If you ever make one I’d be very interested in one as well. Again it’s not infallible but nothing is.
  2. Like most marinas really. I did used to moor there and it was ok…just a pity about the wide beams etc….and some moorers didn’t seem to get the “living under the radar bit!”
  3. That’s probably the right home for it. North Kilworth seems to attract boats that are totally unsuitable for the waterway it’s on such as wide beams and that ridiculous blue monstrosity that didn’t have an engine. If they operate it as a hire boat from there it’s not going to look pristine for long with the tunnels on the summit and low bridges.
  4. I filled out the form on the website but when it asked for my email address it just kept saying email invalid despite trying several addresses. Going to try again this afternoon
  5. Indeed. It’s amazing how sound can transmit through water….especially hull borne noise. Anyhow I just think it’s the height of of ignorance to leave any engine running and go away from your boat.
  6. That might make for a quiet life for you….less so for those moored near you while you are in the pub…and even well cocooned units with a water separator can get really annoying when you are in a neighbouring boat.
  7. I’m just going to leave this here….it’s apparently not AI but is Oakums latest boat that’s for a hire outfit called Synewave….which itself has a website that seems to aim at a certain client base…. The posts on the Facebook page about it can best be described as mixed….the roof has large glass panels as well…. Needless to say I have an opinion on the design of the shell…..
  8. I tried to get a quote from Nobel insurance but despite several attempts with various email addresses it kept saying “email address invalid”. Will give it another go today and if that fails I guess it’s a phone call. Interesting that the online form didn’t seem to ask about a hull survey given the age of the boat which it did ask for.
  9. That’s never been the case at any inland marina I’ve been in….i think yours is the exception!! The best you can expect is some overall cctv which did indeed pick up the exact time the boat was stolen from the marina….when it was checked the next day after the owner got a message from the automated metering system to say the shore line had been unplugged.
  10. There are plenty of advantages to being moored at the bottom of the garden too!…saving £3k a year is quite a nice one…and considering a boat was stolen one night from my previous marina being moored where you are most of the time with cctv etc is about as good as you could get….be honest how many marina owners check on every boat every day??
  11. I am in the process of doing exactly the same. Mine is for residential use as we spend as much time onboard as in the house. I also found with GJW my premium went up when I declared an EoG mooring as opposed to a marina mooring.
  12. I couldn’t possibly comment….
  13. Apparently our esteemed prime minister has just announced that fuel duty on red diesel is to be reduced by a third… “Starmer also announced plans to cut the fuel duty rate on red diesel by over a third, to 6.48p per litre from the middle of next month until the end of the year. That's expected to help farmers who use it in their tractors and other agricultural machinery.” I trust it applies to boats!
  14. My quote from GJW has gone from £318 to £331...but I will probably be changing this year due to various issues with GJW. I do have a new Hull survey tho which makes changing easier.....looking at HKJ, Nautical and IRCM marine insurance.
  15. Not true. You can register at “place of interest” which you might have links to so using an address close to your mooring is perfectly acceptable. Can do the same if you are CC. There is even a space on the registration form to this effect.
