  1. Should this not be called "Lack of Motion Sickness". I have noticed a similar thing after a few days boating, if you are moored near a town and go shopping, it seems as though the pavement is moving. Perhaps it's because when onboard, your body is compensating for the rocking movements, and when you are ashore, it carries on for a while.
  2. I would have thought that it should be at least as secure as mobile phone banking. It should be fairly secure as all information is encrypted before sending.
  3. Why not attach your mooring lines to the dolly on the side furthest from the bank, this will give a better angle. When using fenders between the boat and pilings, and suitably tightened mooring lines, the boat should not move when boats Speed past.
  4. We hired the "Grey Heron" from Anderton possibly around about the same time, partly because it had the stove fitted, and were "Persuaded Not to use the Bubble Stove as we would not need it". The man doing the show around said that they were planning to remove them as they were more trouble than they were worth. We decided that we Would use it, and found it to give out lots of heat once you had got it going. There seemed to be a knack to getting it started which involved partly dismantling the burner, and placing a firelighter in a small pool of diesel at the bottom, lighting it and reassembling the burner then closing the door. Our stove did not burn quite right as the chimney that was fitted seemed to be a bit short and did not provide the correct draught. As you say, the diesel central heating was not very good as you could not have it running all night due to battery consumption, unlike the gas c / heating fitted to most hire boats.
  5. Alvechurch have the 58' "Heron" class which have a diesel fired stove in the saloon.
  6. In my experience it's usually "Black Prince" boats that race past as the "Anglo Welsh" ones are usually on their last legs unless you get one that has just had a new engine fitted.
  7. I have an 18 month contract with 3 which includes a free high speed dongle and 5 Gb per month download allowance which is costing me £7.50 per month. This usually costs £15.00 per month, but I signed up to a half price deal via the cashback website "Quidco". It is worth checking the various cashback websites as they usually have some quite good deals available. I am now on my second 18 month term with 3, and have just received a new high speed dongle which is twice the speed of my original one, and the monthly cost has remained the same at £7.50, or about 25p per day.
  8. Another one that we had was "I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking".
  9. We tend to use chains when mooring on pilings as they seem to be the most secure method, but we also have the piling clips which look a bit like large paper clips, and fit around the crash barrier on the piling. These can come undone if your mooring ropes are not tied tight enough though. Both of these methods tend to be silent providing you have fenders between the boat and piling, and have your ropes tight enough. You also get little or no movement when the speedboats pass you. Mooring pins are Always the last resort for us as they give the least secure mooring especially in wet times when the bank is very soggy.
  10. Perhaps this is referring to subscription services such as ESPN and TopUpTV.
  11. I am watching this right now, and have been doing so for several hours. It is very interesting, and is the only programme that I have found worth watching on QUEST since it started broadcasting on Freeview. This is the sort of programme that the late great Fred Dibnah used to present many years ago.
