lexicon Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Hi all. I have a solar setup of 1 235w 30v panel going to a 20a tracer mppt, early and late the panel gets shade from trees so amps drop, would the controller be able to cope with a second panel. Controller is 100v max version, so another 30v panel wouldn't over voltage it, but would having over amp damage the controller in the middle of the day? Or would it just deliver 20amp max and ignore the rest?
smileypete Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Yeah, should be OK. Could also buy another 20A Tracer and have a separate panel on each one, or sell the 20A and buy a 30A. cheers, Pete. ~smpt~
Nickhlx Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 I have noticed our domestic "Sunny Boy" MPPT inverter "tops out" about an hour each side of noon in the middle of the year - the panels are about 10% in Wp over the max handling of the inverter, so am assuming that the inverter is actually topping out, and in nearly 3 years hasn't died yet...
