I was wondering what do i get if i was to use the expensive blacking paint? Would i be required to do the painting less, or would it be advised standard 2/3 year interval thanks.boat.gif

- much harder wearing

- doesn't dissolve in diesel (eg at the waterline)

You could stretch out the intervals between painting to 4 years if you wanted, but bear in mind that painting is only half the reason you'd take a boat out the water every 2 years. There's other things such as inspecting the stern gear, etc so you might want to lift it out the water every 2 years anyway.

Use an epoxy treatment - - extend the life to 6+ years

The decision is yours - -

It can be likened to whether you buy well-made shoes at £150, or 5 pairs of cheaper at £40 per pair - - and it can also be affected by how well you treat them

What epoxy do you recommend?

I'd expect any epoxy to be in good condition after only 3 years if it was properly applied.

I've used Jotamistic 87 with aluminium at work and it really is good stuff and suitable for DIY application. If I could get my boat gritblasted to get all the bitumen off that's what I'd use, with a final coat of Jotamastic hardtop.

I don't understand the need to check the sterngear. What's going to happen to it? You can always look at the prop through the weedhatch.
