Hey lovelies

Just wondering if anyone has roughly a 60ft x 12 widebeam with a 250L diesel engine, and if they can give me a rough guestimate of how long the tank lasts if you're running a decent generator, using a fair bit of electricty, and continual cruising (moving every 2 weeksish)? Thank you!!

250L engine?

You'll get moaned at for going to fast you know frusty.gif

I use approx 3 litres per day on generator

thats a big generator.

winter is another story as most sensible liveaboard boats will have diesel heating which can add quite a lot in the order of 0.5 litres per hour so say 6 litres a day.

£1 per litre. thats £9 a day in winter in theory if you are fuel hungry.

There isn't enough information here for anyone to provide an answer.

Not enough info but lets make some assumptions (always dangerous)

60 by 12 widebeam is a lot of boat to move and would expect the engine to be at least 50 hp. and taking Beta Marine figures for their one (link) the engine will use about 2 litres per hour. Maybe more especially on a river with a flow

Diesel (central heating) will be in the region of 1 litre per hour. again that will v ary with temperature required and how cold it is outside and how good the insulation is.

Diesel generator (depending on size, ie.7Kw) will also be in the region 1 litre per hour.

So taking all those assumptions etc.

Engine: 125 hours

Central heating: 250 hours

Generator: 250 hours

Of course you will not use them singly but in a combination and not all the diesel is available (do not want to run the tank dry and suck all the gunge from the bottom)

So depending on time of year, how far you move, the temperature you want and the amount of electricity you use it will last about..................................days. wink.png

I know Im bonkers, and my question is rather lacking in hard fact(!) But you have actually answered me perfectly master bottle. Between you and magnet man I feel I have found all I wanted.. a rough guestimate of costs on my imaginary boat.. hurrah! In return I hope Ive made you all smile (hehehe)

Dear ribcage

I think that your question was not from someone bonkers but quite genuine, although my answer was a little tongue in cheek, I am glad it helped.

If you do not ask you will not know, keep them coming.

ps. you may be even asking the question that someone else is to shy to ask.
