The engine hour counter on my Betamarine panel has stopped working, rev counter is fine.Does anyone know if it is fed from alternator or domestic alternator? If I can't fix it would likd to jerry rig an alternative to keep up servicing schedule even if it ends up tucked away under the boards in the engine room.Has anyone tried alternative hour counters?

That should read ignition or domestic alternator, sorry shonky mobile connection.

If the rev counter is working then its an internal problem. If its an LCD display then it might cure itself for a while. If its mechanical then Ditchcrawler has the cheapest way of solving it.

For LCD displays Gibbo once posted and told us that stripping and cleaning a ribbon cable contact to the display often solves it.

Mine failed and Beta suggested taking it home and putting it in a airing cupboard for a few days to dry any damp out. In my case this did not work but I suspect it is a corroded contact somewhere inside that is causing the problem. There is no separate feed to the counter BTW, it is just driven from the switched power to the rev counter.

Thanks for the replies.A £20 fix looks like the way to go.I wish everything on a boat could be sorted so cheaply.

If the rev counter / hours meter is made by VDO then its a moisture related problem. It will be counting hours, just not displaying them. Usually resolves itself once the temperature rises and it stops raining! The hours meter on our Isuzu has done this for about 4 years.
