Hi, so going to buy a boat tomorrow, it has not got a license for canals, I don't have a mooring but know where I am going to moor it eventually when I get there.I think I read somewhere there is an cart office near Stanley ferry, can I just turn up give them money and float away, I can get some insurance over the phone, is that enough, if there is not an office can I arrange something over the phone, or do I have to go without a license until beauracracy takes its course, Thanks,Tim

I did my insurance over the phone and policy arrived next day. License, I had to phone C&RT and they sent application form which I filled in and sent back. As soon as they take the money, I'm licensed so they told me and the discs will be posted out as soon as.

Do you have permission from the navigation authority to moor there? You can't just moor where you want, there are very defined rules about permanent moorings. The alternative is to continuously cruise.

Hi,

Has your proposed purchase got a current |Boat Safety certificate?, if not you may have problems.

I don't believe CRT have an office at Stanley Ferry any longer, they have a workshop where they make lock gates but not anywhere that you can licence a boat - I'm open to correction though.

Right thanks, so hopefully if I can pay over the phone to cover me, dont matter when the hard copies come I suppose

Once your boat is licensed it is licensed, and it will show as such on CRT's system.

Our boat was licensed nearly three months ago and the 'discs' have just gone in the windows.

Assuming you have all your paperwork in order you will find the licensing team at Leeds will normally be able to help.
