Hi and welcome to the forum. Look at as many boats for sale as you can to get a feel for which layout / stern style you prefer. Walk along the towpath where boats are moored on a summer evening and chat to boaters - you find most boaters will be happy to chat and have loads of advice (though many will contradict each other ) Locks are another place where you can talk to boaters. Also read lots of old threads on here - every question you can think of plus many you haven't will have been covered here at some point. Best of luck.

"Best" - is completely immaterial - - - - - look round LOADS of boats - and eventually you'll discover what type you like "best" !
Phil Ambrose Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 "Best" - is completely immaterial - - - - - look round LOADS of boats - and eventually you'll discover what type you like "best" !Fact, everybody regards their boat as the best, so as has already been said, look at lots. Phil 1

Chalky Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) S M Hudson are widely regarded to build the best boats on the cut. Hope this helps. Depends how you define best. Work out a set of requirements that define what you want in a boat. You'll do this by seeing lots of boats, talking to boaters etc. Don't forget to include running costs. The best will be the one that closely or exactly matches your requirements. Alternatively it'll be the one you fall in love with that says "ignore the rest, buy me" In our case best was a sail away from a high volume builder and then fitted out to meet our requirements. You'll have a different definition of best. Don't skimp on the requirements capture and definition (starting to sound like I'm at work!). We spent about 2 years working on what we wanted and how we wanted it and 10 years later we've not changed anything significant since we got it pretty correct first time. Do your homework. Peter. But not by everybody It was an attempt at humour without smileys. Next time I'll add the 'tounge in cheek' smiley.
DeanS Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 I suspect this was a troll? Surely someone wouldnt ask the type of boat and toilet in their first thread? Very strange. I may be wrong.
Chalky Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 I suspect this was a troll? Surely someone wouldnt ask the type of boat and toilet in their first thread? Very strange. I may be wrong. Possibly, however if so we've all given roughly the same answer. If they're a troll then they've not got what they wanted, if they're genuine they they've had some usefull advice.
