Leeds sanitary station (pump out, elsan, toilets and showers) is closed as of 11 April until further notice.

From waterscape:

" This facility is currently closed due to a blockage in the waste pipe leading from the back pump in the sewage holding tank. The Canal & River Trust are working closely with contractors to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience whilst this facility is closed The nearest Canal & River Trust Sanitary Stations, inclusive of Pump-Out, are at Castleford Cut and Dobsons Lock. (Enquiries: Rob Taylor, Moorings Manager 0113 281 6800.)"

Facilities near Leeds are poor as it is so anyone visiting will have to cross their legs......

Worth noting that there is a Elsan at Lemonroyd Marina, but no pump-out, the nearest one of those is indeed Castleford if cruising South.

And they are pleasantly clean and useable too!

(Or have I just 'put a hex' on them now?)

The actual facilities block (toilets/shower) was when we moored there kept scrupulously clean by a lady who clearly took great pride in her job, they are however only available to marina moorers who are supplied with a proprietary key (not a generic/BW one).

It is only the actual Elsan which is accessible to non marina moorers and is located to the rear of the block approaching from the lock/navigation side. It is actually in the open air and was always clean too.

There is a brand new sanitary station at the bottom of Candle House at Granary Wharf but it has never been opened. When I asked Leeds office a couple of years ago I was told there were 'contractural difficulties'. I took that to mean the developers had to build it but wern't bound to open it! Bombard the Leeds office and ask them what's going on.

Of course, the s/stn couldn't be anywhere else but the bottom!

Isn't that the same location where all that malarky was going on about mooring charges???

I used it two days ago. You need to be on the "paying" moorings a Granary Wharf and just ask the security (24 hours) for the key. I was told these particular facilities appear in a previous years BW accounts so they really should be for all boaters. They are clean and new but basic. There's no refuse disposal and the sluice is set a bit high.

Also, for anyone passing, - the waterpoint at office lock has been turned off, for some strange reason.
